Political clash leaves two dead in Bauchi!!

A bloody clash between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Katanga, Warji, headquarters of the Warji Local Government Area of Bauchi State has left two people dead and several others injured.

No fewer than 20 buildings including shops a market, five cars as well as a number of motorcycles were burnt down. Though the properties of members of the two political parties were destroyed, the ACN claims its members suffered more from the destruction. The two people killed were believed to be supporters of the candidates of the ruling PDP. They were allegedly shot during exchange of gunshots between the supporters of the parties.

When NEXT visited the town, a detachment of anti-riot Mobile Policemen were seen patrolling to maintain peace and to curtail the spread of the violence to other places.

Those injured in the clash are receiving treatment at the General Hospital at Ningi, while the bodies of those killed were deposited at the hospital mortuary.

The chairman of the ACN in the council, Suleiman Garba, alleged that it was members of the ruling PDP that attacked his men and burnt down structures belonging to them, particularly those belonging to the candidate for the House of Representatives for Ningi/Warji Federal Constituency, Uba Nana.

Blame game

Mr Suleiman who was still confused about the incident that left houses and cars of his members burnt to ashes said that the PDP supporters who accompanied the Bauchi Central Senatorial District candidate, Ahmed Abdul Ningi, attacked the ACN supporters. He said the ACN supporters were forced to retaliate. "They really surprised us as we were not in any way aware that they will attack us the way they did," said Mr Garba.

But the Chairman of Warji council, Abdulrazak Nuhu Zaki, who is contesting for member of the House of Representatives under the PDP, to represent Ningi/Warji Federal Constituency denied the shooting of anyone during the clash but confirmed that houses belonging to both parties were burnt down by the supporters. He claimed that his party was left with no other option than to retaliate.

Mr Zaki debunked allegations of shooting of any ACN supporters saying, "I have never held a gun in my life before let alone shooting it. I only see it in the hands of security agents. It is totally untrue." He added, "As the Chairman and chief security officer of the local government, it is my responsibility to promote peace and maintain law and order among all the people of the area. How then will I use gun to shoot at people I expected to protect? It is lies." Mr Zaki said he will do everything possible to ensure that the general elections are conducted peacefully in the area. "It is our aim to see that no life was lost before, during and after the elections, we can now talk of who won and who lost." The Police Commissioner, Bauchi Command, Abdulkadir Indabwa confirmed the clash adding that the state has witnessed several political violence.

Police: Disabled Utah Woman Tortured, Crucified and Murdered!

Cassandra Shepard, left, is charged with murder in the death of a disabled woman in her care. Shepard's mother, Sherrie Lynn Beckering, right, and stepfather, Dale Beckering, face charges of domestic violence abuse of a vulnerable adult.

Police in Utah are investigating the death of a disabled woman who they say was brutally abused and hung crucifixion-style inside a small closet.

"It is a very unusual, sad, tragic case," Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal told AOL News. "It is sad to see that somebody could do this to another human being. You just don't see people being treated like this."

Authorities were called to a residence in Kearns, a township in Salt Lake County, on Friday afternoon to investigate a possible overdose. When police and paramedics arrived on the scene, they discovered the body of 22-year-old Christina "Nina" Harms.

Investigators observed ligature marks on Harms' ankles that were consistent with plastic zip ties, Hoyal said. They also found bruises on her thigh and head and discovered a pepper seed in the lower area of one of her eyelids. Harms' hands and arms were completely covered with bandaging material, which would have prevented her from placing or removing the pepper seed from her eye.

"Investigators believed this to be consistent with abuse of a vulnerable adult as they determined the victim was unable to care for herself," Hoyal said.
During their search, investigators discovered a small closet in the living room area that contained an alarm on the doorway. "Inside they found a metal bar [used to] bind the victim in a crucifixion manner," Hoyal said. "Her arms [had been] bound to this bar and [she had been] left in this closet."

Authorities arrested Harms' primary caregiver, Cassandra Shepard, 27, and charged her with murder, domestic violence and obstructing justice. Shepard's mother, Sherrie Lynn Beckering, 50, and stepfather, Dale Beckering, 53, were charged with domestic violence abuse of a vulnerable adult because they allegedly cared for Harms last year and were aware of the crime, police said.

According to the Deseret News, Harms, the mother of a 2-year-old daughter, was the victim of fetal alcohol syndrome. When her mother died of cancer in 2008, Shepard, a family friend, was granted legal guardianship of the then-17-year-old.

"She was handicapped, but very smart. Very intellectual," family friend Marilee Nelson told the newspaper. "She was a fun child. She could play on the computer. She was just slow. She just needed help. She didn't need to be totally controlled."

A preliminary autopsy on Harms has revealed "significant injuries to the victim's body," but a cause of death is still pending. Hoyal said it could take "several weeks" for toxicology tests to be complete and a final report to be issued.

Harms' death has angered area caregivers, one of whom told AOL News she is "completely disgusted" by the case.

"Where is her family ... the father of her child?" Jessie Peters, a caregiver from nearby Provo, told AOL News. "Why isn't there a system put into place where a person not able to take care of themselves is checked up on like they do for the many foster kids here?"

Peters added: "This woman was tortured to death and the only thing people are saying is sometimes the caregivers get overwhelmed. When did we start sympathizing with the aggressors when we should be focused on what the last hours of this woman's life was like and who is going to take care of her baby. These so-called caregivers ... need to be dealt with accordingly."

Hoyal said police are still trying to determine a motive in the case."Obviously, this has been unfolding very quickly with a lot of information coming in," he said. "They're trying to look at all the possible motives and reasons why they did this."

It was not immediately clear today if any of the three suspects had an attorney.

Harms' 2-year-old daughter was living with her inside the home where she was allegedly tortured. According to police, she, along with Shepard's two children, ages 5 and 9, have been placed in protective custody with the state.

"She was a lovely person. She had a heart of gold. I just want to cry when I think about it," Nelson said of Harms in an interview with the Deseret News. "She's in heaven with her mom, thank God. I hope that the people responsible pay."

Pinky-winky

Aunty, your pinky-winky colour combination blew our minds when we saw it. The naughty-by-nature bra straps, your overbearing tits posing, got us all confused. How dare you display these scud missiles in public when you know there is bomb scare everywhere?

Experts have told us that this cleavage display shows that you are a public threat. Because we hold our citizens in high esteem, you are to remain in a restricted area for six months under strict surveillance of military personnel. You are also to pay a fine of N3 million while in custody.

Strip tease

We were so shocked when you were brought in and accused of wearing your underwear in a public place. Could it be a case of mistaken identity? But we were so surprised when your lawyer argued that you were wearing beachwear. For crying out loud, the exhibit shows that this is a bra. Probably it was a photo-shoot for Victoria Secrets. You are to pay N3 million fine.

Pop it up!

Madam! We are screaming out loud that you don’t have to bare your cleavage for everyone in order to show you are relevant. What happens if those untamed pairs suddenly pop out? Do you think it would be their fault? Of course not, because you refused to get them well-guarded. For flouting Section 345 of the Style Act, your tits would remain grounded while you pay N2 million fine.

Despite the fact that the Federal Road Safety Commission keeps preaching safety on our roads, my jury can’t help wondering why you failed to take precaution about your open boot on the highway. This is alarming, reckless and hazardous to other road users, especially the male specie. For contravening the FRSC code of conduct, you are fined N1.5 million.

Young girl, what was on your mind? Did you actually live home wearing this? We ask you this question because we strongly think you should still be in diapers. We hereby send a court summons to your mother or guardian to appear at the next hearing. But before then you have to pay N700,000 and remain in a juvenile home, nay the crèche section of style

This is so distracting and we won’t take it lightly with you, especially when there is crisis in Libya and the demand for our oil would be high. Haba! Getting our votes in coming elections !

You have to love Nigerians for the E-factor. E is for Efizi which roughly translates to extra panache or pizzazz. In recent times, efizzi has become synonymous with the ubiquitous term 'swagger'. It is what separates you from everyone else and makes your market value go higher. Just ask the average Nigerian woman for her top five and you will find swagger on the list. But what does efizzi have to do with getting our votes in, you may wonder? It has a lot to do with it especially when combined with the creatively entrepreneurial Nigerian mind. Let us start with what the youth are doing to make sure we exercise our electoral duties.

The R.S.V.P. (Register Select Vote Protect) campaign which is a part of strategies employed by the Enough is Enough coalition was one of the first youth-led initiatives to get every Nigerian to the polls. They have used mainly images and text to spread their message and they score efizzi points for having a well thought out acronym: R.S.V.P. It breaks down the whole process into four memorable and easy steps. Then the musicians got together and did their own thing. They not only wrote a song but put together a cool music video to boot. It was all about sensitising the populace about the election process and urging them to get involved. They too get efizzi points for delivery but their strategy is neither new nor unique, as the American musicians did the same thing a few years ago.

Then the 'Get Nigeria Voting' wind swept across the emerging fashion industry. Now voting is the next big thing, not Vlisco's ever-changing 'African' prints. Thanks to fashion blogger Terrence Sambo, and photographer Toni Tones, we have the 'Vote. It's In Style' campaign, which encourages electoral participation at all levels of government; local, state and presidential. It gets efizzi points for its tag line and its black, green and white T-shirts modelled by celebrities who all have their individual one liner followed by 'Vote. It's In Style'.

While I agree that getting the Nigerian youth to vote is a great thing, I can't help but feel that the whole exercise is also self serving for individuals and organisations. They too can do their own Corporate Social Responsibility as well as promote their brand and perhaps even make money.

So while we can all laugh our heads off at the antics our politicians are using to woo us to cast our vote in favour of their parties, most notably the PDP machinery which is bringing out all the stops, let us not forget that they too are not as different from those trying to get us to vote. The fact is that there is an election cake being shared out now and everyone is trying to get their piece, both those on the outside and the inside. They are all scrambling for some of the spotlight.

I am thinking of what my own campaign would be. Perhaps something to do with reading or books but I forget that Nigerians are still waiting for the book to be brought back, so it wouldn't have any appeal. So let me add my own tag line; 'No Vote, No Swagger'.

Elizabeth Taylor 'Worth up to $1 Billion' When She Died!!!

Elizabeth Taylor died with a fortune estimated to be in the region of $600m (£374.6m) to $1bn, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Her whopping fortune comes not from her dazzling screen career but astute business deals and the popularity of her perfume lines. Taylor, who is credited with launching the 'celebrity fragrance', enjoyed success with her perfumes launched with the Elizabeth Arden brand.

Since their launch in 1991, Taylor's White Diamonds and Passion fragrances have generated sales of over $1bn, with White Diamonds being the biggest selling celebrity perfume ever. Sales of the product are expected to rise in the wake of Taylor's death.

Her jewellery collection, which was valued at $150 million back in 2002, will most probably be auctioned off in support of the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and amfAR, an AIDS charity Taylor co-founded in the mid-80s. Her collection contains the famous La Peregrina pearl, which dates back some 500 years.

Originally thought to have been found by an African slave in the mid-16th century, the pearl passed through the hands of Phillip II of Spain, Mary I of England before ending up with the Hamilton family, who Burton purchased it from for $37,000 in 1969, giving to Taylor as a Valentine gift.

In her book, Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair with Jewelry, the star admitted that she didn't keep a careful eye on the pearl, on one occasion losing it. Frantically searching her house before Burton found out it was missing, Taylor discovered one of her dog's chewing it like a bone.

She wrote, 'I just casually opened the puppy's mouth and inside his mouth was the most perfect pearl in the world. It was - thank God - not scratched.'

Dishonorable:Private placement, public display!!

Aunty!

Haba!

Mummy, we think you should know better than wearing white underwear with white dress. Haba! This is a terrible fashion abuse and you are hereby found guilty. Since you are a first time offender, you will be placed on style probation and you are to attend two hours of style and trend education everyday.

Water colour, droopy things

Grandma, we hate it so much when your things are sticking out like this, especially when they have reached drooping age. We don’t blame them, after long years of active service they are long overdue for retirement. However, this colour separation you call make-up… na wa o!With all due respect, mumsie, your total look is whacked. You are to pay a fine of N5 million.

Metallic no-no

There is no doubt about it, wearing a metallic dress is trendy; but what’s wrong is when you came all out in all the colours of the rainbow. If we were warned earlier about flashlights and stuffs like that, we would have treaded softly. But it seems you forgot what Section 452 of the 1980 constitution says about metallic colours. It says: “Do not complicate the look by wearing too many accessories, or you’ll end up looking like a mobile streetlight. Simple is the name of the game with metallic colours. Let the dress be the focus.” For making our lives miserable, you are mandated to pay a fine of N6.5 million.

Aunty!

We know you are still in active service, but you don’t have to rub our faces in it. Please, you need to give room to upcoming chics, because no matter how hard you try, the clock is ticking very fast. Next time get those balloons wrapped up. Our final judgment: Trash! With all the authority bestowed on this court of law, you are fined N7.5 million.

We need straws here!

There is no doubt that those bouncing castles need special recognition. No wonder one of the witnesses told us he was tempted to get a straw because he thought it was a cocktail served on a table. But unfortunately, our efficient fashion police picked you up. Goldie, there’s nothing flattering about this and we think that as a role model to our teenage daughters, you should slow down. You are fined N6 million plus 500 hours of community service.

Immoral code

The last time we checked the moral code, it has not been amended and we see no reason why you should be dressed like this. An expose of your milk factory in a public place is an abuse of the law. You are hereby sentenced to 308 months at Ilale in Sokoto State and you would be mandated to milk the cows with the women. This sentence will run concurrently. .

Water colour, droopy things

Metallic NO No!!!

Abuja Lover delivers baby girl for 9ice!!!

9ice

It’s a baby girl for singer 9ice and his Abuja-based partner Bukky!

Although the pair would prefer to keep it hush hush, we can reliably tell you that they are taking their relationship a step further with the arrival, early last week, of their first baby together.

Sources close to 9ice tell us the singer -who’s separated from his wife Toni Payne – has been a regular visitor to Abuja, since Bukky – a fair-complexioned older woman – took in last year.

The relationship has never been public, even though those close to the singer are well aware they’re seriously dating.

We cannot tell for now, if the pair is planning to get married; especially as 9ice and Payne are still legally married.

Multiple sources tell us this lady is the reason the singer has been a regular visitor to Abuja; and that his ex Toni Payne is – unhappily- aware of the relationship. ‘In fact almost all the ladies close to him know of her. She herself even went out of her way to contact them‘, our source offers.

Sources say Bukky’s baby, a girl, was delivered on Monday March 21. The baby is 9ice’s second. His first son named Zion was delivered on Thursday December 4, 2008, at Presbytarian Hospital, Southern California, United States of America.

I can tell you for sure that 9ice has gotten the girl pregnant, and she has put to bed. Toni knows. But even her is keeping quiet but it’ll be a source of embarrassment for her‘, one of 9ice’s close friends tells us. He does not want to be named.

I can’t tell if he’ll marry her or not. But she’s very close to him and I believe they’re serious‘. He disclosed.

9ice’s manager Dehinde Fajana through a telephone conversation, Fajana claimed that he is ignorant of the situation and questioned the existence of his boss’ Abuja partner.

‘Is there any partner there? Does 9ice have any partner in Abuja? I’m sorry, I don’t know’ Fajana responded.

9ice did not immediately respond to our enquiries.

Breaking News: Fast-Rising Comedian CD John Is Dead

Less than a month to the first anniversary of the tragic death of rapper Dagrin, another very bright and promising star has passed on, in very shocking circumstances.
Multiple sources are confirming to us, that fan-favourite CD John, who emerged last year as one of the most promising acts in Nigeria’s stand-up comedy industry, is dead.
The young cracker, who became a regular performer at almost every gig/concert since late 2010 when major promoters and critics first noticed him, was on his way back from Industry Nite when he crashed his car and ended up at St Nicholas Hospital, in Lagos Island.
‘He was the MC at Harrysong’s album listening party which held at Tribeca’, a source tells us. Yesterday’s Industry Nite was dedicated to Questionmark act Harrysong who is promoting his new album. ‘He was driving back to the mainland, heading to his home at Jakande estate, Isolo when the accident happened’.
‘Yes he was the host at our event yesterday’ Industry Nite’s Matthew Ohio tells NET. ‘He was invited by Questionmark and I did not even know him prior to that. It’s just so sad if it’s true’.
We cannot for now confirm the exact location the crash happened. But reliable sources say he was driving a Black Gulf 3.
‘He was rushed to St Nicholas where he gave up the ghost at around 7am’.
Colleagues Gbenga Adeyinka, Teju Babyface, Tee A, Basketmouth, Ali Baba and a certain Tee Gee are confirming that they are aware of the accident, and reports of his death. However, no one has seen a doctor’s statement or his corpse as at press time. NET reporters are on standby at the hospital, and at his home, and we will bring you details as they unfold.
‘We’re all heading there now. Everyone is heading to the hospital where we hope we’ll meet some good news’ one of the acts told us.
The late comedian, born John Chijioke, was a truly gifted singer and comedian who tried his hands first on music (as far back as 2006) before settling for stand-up comedy. ‘He used to sing but when I found out he was funny, I pushed him to join me do comedy. He had a breakthrough before me. And now that I want to be proud of him, I suddenly lost him’ his friend Tee Gee says.
‘I’ve not even seen him this year’, Teju Babyface tells NET. ‘everybody likes the boy. What’s all this now! Anyway we’re still waiting on good news from the hospital…’
‘He made me laugh at Tribeca last night, now he’s dead. Heartbreaking.’ a fan wrote on her BBM status, early this morning.
CD John will mostly be remembered for his funny Christian choruses – a unique style where he messes around with the lyrics of popular songs; presenting his own account of how different Nigerian tribes would deliver the lyrics. With a superb voice, growing repertoire and audience control; he was set to become a big player in the competitive stand-up comedy scene. Until death put a stop to all that promise.

Why did Nadia Buari have to lie about her DRESS!!!

According to information that has just reached http://obehiokoawo.blogspot.com, Ghanaian actress, Nadia Buari has been dropped by her US based PR firm, JMG MEDIA RELATIONS.

A few weeks ago, new stories emerged online claiming that the Actress, Nadia Buari lied about the gown she wore to the Pan African Film Festival in February. The Press release issued by the PR Firm credited Oscar De La Renta as the designer. It turned out that Oscar De La Renta denied ever making the Dress.

Why did Nadia Buari have to tell a lie to her her PR? Why do African Celebrities feel the need to credit International designers to boost their image? What happened to wearing the native Kente or Ankara Prints?

Even though the Letter from JMG MEDIA RELATIONS does not state a reason why they are withdrawing their Media Representation for the sexy screen goddess, for anyone has followed stories about Nadia Buari recently, the answer will not be far-fetched.This is very shameful and we hope other Celebrities are taking note.
