Man Killed For Having An Affair With Monarch’s Son’s Lover

Olanrewaju Ogunsanwo had gone for a child christening ceremony to honour his would-be in-laws. It was to be the last outing for the printer. That same day he was viciously attacked by some people and he later died. Was the attack on Ogunsanwo premeditated? What could have warranted such a gruesome attack? These and others are questions the police are trying to find answers to. Policemen attached to the Alade Police Station in Shomolu area of Lagos State are currently on the trail of those behind the gruesome mur-der of one Olarenwaju Ogunsanwo. The deceased reportedly met his untimely death in the hands of suspected cult members at a naming ceremony where he had gone to felicitate with the parents of the new child. About 30 fierce-looking hoodlums, clad in red apparel all through, were reported to have arrived at the party on the pretence that they were there to felicitate with the parents of the new baby. The sad event occurred on Thursday, May 24, 2012. Before his death, Ogunsanwo lived in Port Harcourt, Rives State, where he worked.
Upon his return to La-gos, Ogunsanwo lived at No 36, Adebisi Street, Shomolu where he carried out his printing job. A bachelor, Ogunsanwo soon met a lady, identified as Bukola in the area and the two started a love affair.
The said Bukola already had two kids for another man before they met. Both Ogunsanwo and Bukola were reported to have agreed to get married sometime next year. But unknown to the deceased, Bukola was engaged in another affair with a suspected hoodlum kingpin and a son to a traditional ruler in the area, identified as Musa.
On that fateful Thursday, Bukola’s younger brother was to name his new born baby at the child’s mother’s residence at No 36 Araromi Street, in the same locality.
As an in-law-to-be Ogun-sanwo was said to have arranged with two of his colleagues to join him at the party.  Also unknown to Ogunsanwo, Musa, Bukola’s other lover, was also invited to the same party. The said Musa is reported to be member of the notorious gang that earlier arrived at the occasion.
Thick into the party, one Dare Ibironke reportedly ignited a scuffle having reportedly challenged the audacity of one of Ogunsanwo’s friends to dance with Bukola.
Naturally, Ogunsawo reportedly intervened and confronted the said Ibironke for accusing his friend. Ibironke reportedly broke a beer bottle wanting to use it against Ogunsawo. An eye witness told Saturday Mirror that one Nojim prevented Ibironke from stabbing Ogunsanwo with the broken bottle.
The said Nojim reportedly got injured in the process, though. While the scuffle was ongoing, one Idris, said to be Musa’s younger brother, reportedly got hold of another bottle, broke it and stabbed Ogunsanwo on the throat. Within seconds, Ogunsawo, drenched in his blood, slumped.
The eye witness claimed it was at that point that the men clad in red rose up and started shooting sporadically into the air.The sporadic gunshots from the suspected cultist members however prevent-ed anyone from rescuing Ogunsanwo on time. That was around 6:30p.m.
The gun-shots were still raging moments later when a detachment of policemen from Alade Police Station reportedly stormed the troubled are. The law enforcement agents reportedly engaged the shooters in gun duel until they surrendered to the superior firepower of the law enforcement agents and fled. The eyewitness said further that it was after the cult members had fled that sympathizers carried Ogunsanwo to a general hospital in the area.
By 9:00pm, Ogunsanwo was pronounced dead after losing too much blood due to the injury he sustained. Around 1:49pm the following day, the re-mains of Ogunsanwo were released to his family. Arrangements were quickly made to have the corpse interred at the Atan cemetery, Yaba by his relatives.
Another eyewitness revealed that Musa was arrested by the police that day and later granted bail, while his brother is still at large. Other members of the gang that shot into the air at the party are also said to have fled the area. The eyewitness, however, fingered an NURTW gang leader, identified simply as Gbenga, as the brain behind the assault on the men in red apparel.
But speaking with Saturday Mirror, Gbenga denied involvement in the crisis. His words, “It baffles me when some people are mentioning my name to the crisis you mentioned.
How can I send people to go and fight or kill someone? I did not do that. It is strange when people ascribe violence to me. I am a peace-loving per-son,” he said.A relative of the deceased who plead-ed anonymity told Saturday Mirror that the attack on Ogunsanwo was carried out by people he had quarrels with in the past.
The elderly man said that prior to that fateful day, Ogunsanwo claimed to have been receiving threat messages from unknown men, who claimed he had stepped on their toes and would ‘deal with him.’ Attempts by Saturday Mirror to get the new Divisional Police Officer of Alade Police Station to speak on the matter were futile, but a police-man attached to the station, who would not want his name in prints, said that the case is receiving ‘serious attention’ and reporters would be briefed on the developments at the appropriate time.
A female relative of the deceased, who pleaded anonymity, told Saturday Mirror that Ogunsanwo’s murder was well orchestrated. “Lanre was killed by those who felt he was a hindrance to marrying their woman. I do not know how friendship with a girl could warrant taking an innocent man’s life?” she asked.
The monarch and father of the alleged assailant in a telephone chat with Saturday Mirror claimed that his sons were not involved in the fracas that led to Ogunsanwo’s death. His words: “My son did not kill anyone.
When police came to raid the area after the said fight, my sons were not there. They were far from there. So I do not know how anyone could be ascribing to my son an incident he was miles away from. The people peddling this ru-mour have nothing to say than malign-ing my son.
