ACN Governors And Local Govt. Councils To Contribute N1 Billion To Fund Tinubu's Birthday???

SaharaReporters has learnt that former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Lagos has demanded that the Lagos State government and various local government councils in the state contribute huge sums of cash to fund his 69th birthday celebration.

Reliable sources told SaharaReporters that Mr. Tinubu, a professed opposition figure and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), made it compulsory that the chairmen of all local governments under the party contribute cash to give him a birthday that one of his critics has described as "obscene and immoral." In all, the ACN chieftain has asked the state and local governments to cough up N1 billion.

"The birthday party is being planned as a month-long affair and will be celebrated in phases," said one source.

In addition to the funds from his state, Mr. Tinubu has also asked that the governors of Oyo, Ekiti, Edo and Ekiti make significant cash donations to the planned events. Our sources revealed that tension may be brewing between Mr. Tinubu and Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State over the latter's refusal to contribute towards the lavish birthday party.

Mr. Ajimobi recently hosted President Goodluck Jonathan's wife, Patience, during her visit to Oyo State. A source close to the governor told SaharaReporters that Mrs. Jonathan told Mr. Ajimobi not to create enmity with PDP elements in his state. She reportedly described former Governor Tinubu as a closet member of the PDP.

Our source said Mrs. Jonathan, who was piqued by Tinubu's recent criticisms of her husband's policies, also revealed that Mr. Tinubu has met secretly with her husband on several occasions. She said that, at one such private meeting last year in France, President Jonathan and Tinubu struck a deal to quash a case against the former governor for violations of Code of Conduct provisions.

After portraying Mr. Tinubu as a selfish politician out for his personal financial interests, Mrs. Jonathan told Ajimobi to contact her directly if he needed anything from Mr. Jonathan.

A source in Oyo stated that Governor Ajimobi's decision not to bankroll Tinubu's birthday extravaganza may signal the governor's determination to escape from under Mr. Tinubu's tyrannical style of leadership within the ACN political orbit and Ajimobi's move to start a gradual migration back to the PDP. Ajimobi is generally described as a non-performing governor by Oyo indigenes.

After 9-Years Of Killing His Boss, PHCN Security Guard Is Sentenced To Death

Nine years after, Stephen Haruna, a security guard with the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN)  (then NEPA) killed the person he was paid to protect, Miss. Sussana Igwe, an Assistant General Manager, Legal with the PHCN, the Supreme Court has confirmed the death sentenced passed on him for the gruesome murder.

Haruna, was attached to Igwe, but murdered her. In the course of investigation, Haruna admitted killing her boss and was consequently charged with murder before an Abuja High Court.

He was found guilty and sentenced to death. He however challenged the high court's judgment on appeal. The Court of Appeal affirmed the high court's decision and still dissatisfied, he appealed to the Supreme Court.

Justice Suleiman Galadima who wrote the lead judgment with which four other justices concurred said that there was overwhelming evidence to uphold the conviction of Haruna.
He said: "In the face of overwhelming evidence against the Appellant, I cannot upturn the concurrent findings of the trial court and the court below (the Court of Appeal) when the Appellant has failed to demonstrate that the said concurrent findings were perverse and could not be supported having regard to the evidence adduced by the Prosecutor."

The judge also stated that Haruna's girlfriend, one Mary Jimoh also testified to the fact that the money he (Haruna) stole from Igwe was deposited with her.

Although, the convict made three confessional statements to the police in the course of the investigation, he later retracted one of the statements.

Justice Galadima held that even if the third statement was discountenanced, Haruna could still be and was rightly convicted.
According to him the Appellant's confessional statement was corroborated by the discovery of stolen money he took to his girlfriend at Kubwa, suburb of Abuja city to keep for him.

The judge held: "It was on the strength of the confessional statement that the police went to Kubwa where the money was discovered. Also the testimonies of the driver, the PHCN's Senior Security Officers and the forensic reports corroborated the Appellant's confessional statement."

So sad, as the mother of the late Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIGP), Haruna John, Mrs. Silany John died on Saturday of shock following the death of her son.

Haruna died along other police officers on Wednesday March 14, in a helicopter crash in Jos, 12 days after he was decorated with his new rank, by the acting Inspector-General (IG), Mohammed Abubakar.

His burial was slated Saturday, March 31 but his mother died Saturday morning, March 24. She was 82years old.

Sympathizers have been trooping the residence to commiserate with the family since the police DIG passed on. But  more sympathizers have  besieged the family compound following the sudden death of  Haruna's mother.

It was gathered that Haruna's aged father has been taken away from the house, and is unaware of his wife's death.

"He has not even been told of his wife's demise for fear of a third tragedy", a family member disclosed.

It was difficult talking to the Late Haruna's younger brother, Yusuf John, when The Nation visited the family compound yesterday.

When asked about funeral arrangements for the two bodies, Yusuf said the family is perplexed and mystified.

"Mama had not been herself since Haruna died.

"Yesterday (Saturday) morning she gave up the ghost.

"We don't know what to do now.

"Everybody [in the family] is confused", a grief-stricken Yusuf managed to say.

Senior Pastor Of United Evangelical Church Kills Wife For Saying "No To Sex"

For those of you that love pastors so much that you don't like reading the ugly truth about them, you can ignore this. As for me I will continue to expose any pastor that makes any attempt to mock God, because I almost fell into the hands of a fake pastor, that's a story for another day.

A senior Pastor of United Evangelical Church, Rev. Sunday Alfa has murdered his wife,a mother of 4 for refusing him sex.

The wife, Mrs. Rose Alfa was murdered in the Mission House at about 3am in Igojo,Ubali Village near Okene in Kogi State.

We learnt that before the woman gave up the ghost, she had confessed to a Policeman, who was taking her to the hospital that she did no wrong to her pastor husband and that the man came in the night in the room she was sleeping to demand for sex,but she refused because she gave birth to her last baby in October last year through cesarean section and the doctor asked her to abstain from sex for some time.

We gathered that the woman had divorced the pastor and went to Benin City to live with her brother,Mr. Alex Abah.

Four years later, the pastor went to meet the wife relations to beg for forgiveness and pleaded with them to allow his wife come back to him because he had been promoted to Senior Pastor and it was compulsory for him to bring back his wife before they could effect the promotion.

The wife's relations agreed and allowed her to go back to the husband.

It was during his stay with the wife that the pastor eventually murdered her over sex.

High-Tech Prostitution : Barcodes Placed On Women' Forced Into Prostitution (Photo)

Prostitution has assumed a new dimension in Spain as pimps now tattoo women with bar codes as a sign of ownership and apply violence to force them into prostitution.

Police in Spain arrested 22 members involved this heinous crime and tagged the gang the "bar code pimps." Officers freed one 19-year-old woman who had been beaten, held against her will and tattooed with a bar code and an amount of money — €2,000 ($2,650) — which investigators believe was the debt the gang wished to extort before releasing her.

The woman had also been whipped, chained to a radiator and had her hair and eyebrows shaved off, according to an Interior Ministry statement.

All those arrested were of Romanian nationality and had forced the women to hand over part of their earnings, the statement said.

The women were tattooed on their wrists if they tried to escape, the statement said. Police also seized guns and ammunition. It was not immediately clear when the raids took place.

Police seized €140,000 ($185,388) in cash, which had been hidden in a false ceiling, a large amount of gold jewelry and five vehicles, three of which were described as luxury cars.

The gang was made up of two separate groups, referred to as "clans" in the statement, each dedicated to controlling prostitution along fixed stretches of a street in downtown Madrid.

One of the alleged ringleaders who was identified only by the initials "I.T." is wanted by authorities in Romania for crimes linked to prostitution, the statement said.

The women were controlled at all times to ensure "money was taken off them immediately," the statement said.

Woman Sacrifices Her Only 8-Year-Old Daughter To River Goddess For The Purpose Of Having More Children

Is marriage now a do or die?

Residents of Anumajogwu, in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State were shocked beyond words when Idenyi Abbah, a middle aged woman residing at Anumajogwu, in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State confessed to mysteriously killing her 8-year-old daughter, Enyanwu, because she wanted more children.

Currently held at the Ukwo Police Station in Benue State, Abbah, who had one child for her husband, said she became envious when he married a second wife in a quest for more children. She then consulted a juju priest at Ikem in Anambra State, who allegedly asked her to sacrifice her only daughter to the Awube goddess.

"I have been to every part of the country, searching for pastors and native doctors that could help me out of this problem, but have been told almost the same story, that my only daughter was 'ogbanje' (witch) and had blocked my womb," she said. "I had tried to avoid the solution I got from one native doctor at Ikem; until my husband opted for another wife. This move had forced me to do the wish of the gods by killing Enyanwu."

At the venue of the sacrifice, near the Awube River, around midnight, the said juju priest allegedly arranged for some young men who gang-raped Enyanwu before sacrificing her to the said goddess, while her mother watched.

A resident of the area, who gave his name as Okpe, claimed to have witnessed the murder from a hideout while he was hunting at night; adding that he was powerless to stop the killing because the young men were armed. "They put their knives through her neck after the mother had said some incantation," he said. "They also raped her before that."

Okpe said he fled the scene and reported the matter to the village head, who then alerted the police. When police officers and residents of the community stormed the scene of the murder, nobody was found and a search revealed Enyanwu's mutilated corpse in a shallow grave near the river.

Police authorities in the state say a manhunt has been launched for the murderers and that Abbah will soon be charged to court.

Drunk Man Causes Bomb Scare In Market By Throwing A Package And Screaming "Boko Haram"

It was a mild drama as residents and market traders at the popular Ojuelegba area of Lagos were thrown into confusion lastweek when a middle-aged man allegedly threw a package inside the main market and screaming 'Boko Haram'.

According to witnesses: The man who was later identified as Okosun Godson was said to have intentionally dressed himself in a grotesque looking nature in turban and robes to scare off people as his continuous screams of 'I be Boko Haram' coupled with a few theatrics sent residents panicking.

Acting on emergency tips, the Anti-bomb squad section of the Lagos State Police Command and some other law enforcement authorities shortly arrived the scene, only to find out that Okosun was indeed acting under the influence of alcohol.

Police spokesperson, Mutairu Jigi told Ascology News that the man has been arrested and will be charged for Breach of Peace after undergoing medical tests to prove he is actually fit to stand trial.

How A Nigerian Police Inspector Cheated On His Wife Of 2-Years And Sets Her Ablaze

Marriages are gradually becoming horror movies in Nigeria.
Why on earth will a husband empty a gallon of fuel on a woman he calls his wife? If not for anything at least for their 18-month-old son.

That was the question on the lips of stunned patients and visitors at the Leverage Hospital, Igbo-Elerin, Okokomaiko, a suburb of Lagos State, where the doctor and his retinue of nurses are battling to save the life of a woman whose husband, a police inspector, set ablaze on Friday after a squabble.
The victim, Augustina, hails from Anambra State while her husband, Wasiu Jimoh, is from Kwara State. With burns all over her body, fluid mixed with human fat dripped ike a fountain from her face down her chest to her fingertips. Writhing in pains, the medics, Dr Bayo and the nurses, battled to give Augustina some relief as her peeling skin glued her to the hospital bed. The doctor said she had suffered second-degree burns.

Initially, she hardly uttered a word except some feeble words expressing regrets over a marriage that has gone sour barely two years after it was contracted.

How it started
The residents of 7 Tunde Lawal Street, Okokomaiko, woke up on Friday to witness a more dangerous fight between the couple said to be notorious for constantly quarreling.
According to Augustina, trouble started on Thursday when she reported to the husband that a certain lady sent her an irritating text massage warning her to leave Wasiu alone, claiming that the police officer was her man.
The victim, who claimed that her husband had the habit of keeping relationship with other women, said Inspector Jimoh flared up and started beating her. On Friday morning, he reportedly told her that since she was stubborn, he was going to deal with her.

She also claimed that he had constantly quarrelled with her over her demand for feeding money, adding that he frequently assaults her on the slightest provocation. According to the victim, as he was pounding her, a neighbor came to her rescue and facilitated her escape to another neighbour's kitchen, who was cooking at that time, only for the husband to rush in and emptied a gallon of fuel upon her by the fire place. But police officer, said to be serving at the Ifako Police Station, Bariga, told the doctor that it was his wife that was bearing the keg of fuel in her hand as she made her escape into the neighbour's kitchen. Unfortunately, he explained, the fuel exploded upon her leaving the whole place on fire.

Scared neighbours
When our correspondent visited the couple's residence, neighbors talked about the incident in hushed tones as if all were mindful of an uncertain fate that might befall them if they said anything. Sunday Sun gathered that the victim was the fifth woman in the officer's home, as four other women that lived with him had ran away for their dear lives. A reliable source disclosed that his first wife escaped when she realized that the man was like a time bomb that could explode on her. She is said to be presently living abroad.
It was gathered that until Augustina came, no woman could live with Jimoh. But the victim, according to a close associate of the husband, believed she could change the man for good.

Augustina's shocker
Asked if she would return to the marriage after her ordeal, Augustina reluctantly told our correspondent that she would wait for her family's decision. According to her, she cannot give a definite response until she had heard from her family and that her mind was not made up.

Our correspondent also gathered that when the incident happened, the woman ran to her Pentecostal church pastor to show him what was left of her burnt skin before the pastor instructed her to proceed to the hospital for medical intervention. Her decision to rush to her pastor, it was explained, was because the man of God had been advising her to pray that the man could change since there is no situation too difficult for God to handle.
The woman has however appealed for assistance from government and non-governmental organizations.
The police officer was arrested on Friday but it was gathered that he had been granted conditional bail at press time.

Exposed: How Car-Wash Boys Steals And Sells Customers Cars

When his regular auto mechanic requested to take his car, a Mercedes GL 450 Sports Utility Vehicle, to a carwash in his neighbourhood, Francis Ikechukwu had no reason to suspect that something was amiss.

There was no indication that the carwash, which is situated in Ajao Estate, Lagos, was not  safe. But when it was time to retrieve his vehicle from the facility, Ikechukwu made a shocking discovery.

CRIME DIGEST investigations show that Ikechukwu had, indeed, on March 9, 2012, given the mechanic permission to take the SUV for repairs.

Ikechukwu said, "My mechanic finished with my car on March 13 and took my car to the carwash at Ajao Estate. A few hours later, I returned to take possession of my car, only to be told that one of the attendants had driven the car away.

"I made efforts to reach the attendant, whose name is Prince Godspower, after getting his telephone number from his colleague. I pleaded with him to return my car and he kept saying that he was coming.

"After some time, his phone was no longer reachable. At this time, I went to the Ajao Estate Police Station to make a report."

Unknown to Ikechukwu and others living in the neighbourhood, the carwash served as a cover for a group of thieves who dealt in stolen cars.

CRIME DIGEST learnt that the owners of the carwash – Samuel Onyedikachi and Godspower – were allegedly using it as an instrument for stealing their customer's cars and transferring them to their partners in crime.

While Ikechukwu and his cousin appealed desperately to Godspower to return the car, the latter had already arranged with other members of the gang to dispose of it.

Police investigation of the matter finally led to the arrest of Onyedikachi and Godspower. In no time, other suspects were linked with the theft of the SUV.

Describing the circumstances that led to the arrests, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Manko, said, "A case of stealing and conspiracy was transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, from Ajao Estate Police Division. The prime suspect in the case, Onyedikachi, confessed that Godspower drove the Mercedes GL 450 to an unknown destination.

"In a bid to apprehend Godspower, Onyedikachi led a team of Special Anti Robbery Squad operatives to arrest a certain Habib at his Honda hideout in Ajao Estate, who we believed knew Godspower's whereabouts.

"Habib led the police to a certain Abdullahi Mohammed, who in turn led the police to a Yakubu Kasali, who in turn led the police to a certain Shina at Liverpool Road in Apapa. All of them are members of the same gang.

"Shina was able to lead the police to Godspower's hideout at Liverpool Road. At this time, Godspower was no longer in possession of the stolen vehicle, but he said a certain Mohammed Tahiru, another member of the gang, would know the location of the car.

"It was Tahiru that finally led the police to recover the stolen Mercedes where it was parked at a warehouse in Kirikiri, Apapa."

Onyedikachi was the first suspect to be arrested in connection with the stolen car. His arrest and subsequent confession led to the arrest of seven more suspects, including Godspower, before the car was eventually recovered from its new place.

But Onyedikachi claimed that Godspower planned the theft without his knowledge. He said, "It was Godspower who suggested that we sell Francis' car. He said it would fetch us a lot of money, but I wasn't convinced. I was scared of the operation. That was why I refused to go with Godspower when he drove the car away; instead, I stayed back at the carwash."

Explaining his role in the theft, Godspower said,  "I got to know Onyedikachi when we both applied for a job as drivers in the same company. Although we were unsuccessful in the interview, we remained friends and kept in touch.

"Later, he told me that he had worked for two years at a carwash and suggested that we start a carwash of our own. Since I had never worked at a carwash before, I didn't know what it entailed.

"Onyedikachi said we needed an open space to run our business. We went round Ajao Estate in search of a suitable place until we found one, contacted its owner and rented it.

"Not long after we opened shop, Onyedikachi told me that he had a friend who had expressed interest in our business and had offered his help in getting a buyer for any car we wanted to dispose of. Initially when he said this, I didn't pay attention to him. But when our landlord began to trouble us for his rent, I told Onyedikachi to inform his friend Habib that we had a car for sale.

"Habib immediately said I should bring the car over to him in Apapa.  However, before I could get the car to Apapa, I kept getting calls from its owner Ikechukwu, his cousin and my relatives. They kept urging me to return the car, that the police were after me.

"When I communicated this new development to Habib, he suggested that I drive the car to the toll gate, where they would get another buyer. Before I could get to the toll gate, the car stopped at Egbeda; the fuel tank was empty. By this time, I was scared and wanted nothing to do with the theft, but Habib called someone who met me up at Egbeda, gave me N15,000 to hide in a hotel, while he took over the car. That was the last I knew of the car until the police arrested me."

A Touching Letter From The Grave From A Woman Who Suffered And Died Loving Her Husband

Businessman Escapes Death By Electrocution In Lagos As PHCN Utility Pole Crashes On His Car

A very lucky businessman Mr. Emmanuel Okolie this evening escaped electrocution after a Power Holding Company of Nigeria PHCN pole fell and crushed his car directly in front of the Sabo police station in Ebute-Metta.

According to police sources at the scene of the accident, a commercial bus driver popularly known as 'danfo' was trying to beat traffic along Herbert Macauley Way and decided to climb the median on the road. In the process he ran into a PHCN pole and crushed it. The pressure from the falling pole pulled a second pillar on, and both of them fell crushing four vehicles and creating a hellish messy traffic situation during the evening rush hour.

The Police source who wants to remain anonymous told SaharaReporters that, "a danfo driver was attempting to beat the traffic log jam by climbing the median. He ran into an electric pole and crushed it and the pressure from the falling pole pulled down a second one, and they both fell on vehicles in traffic". The police source also said that while it was obvious that the driver trespassed traffic rules, some blame should also go to PHCN.

"Oga if you look at that pole you will know it is fake. These are the concrete poles they brought after the recent rain storm that pulled down the old ones. We thought they were good but now that they have been crushed, you can see that the iron rods inside are less than 1cm diameter. The concrete itself from what you can see is sub-standard."

Some of residents who gathered at the scene also accused PHCN of collecting vast sums of money from residents to provide electric poles but always end up bringing sub standard poles that fall off at the slightest pressure.

The danfo driver could not be located as he was said to have abandoned his vehicle and took off obviously for fear of arrest, but the police remained confident that they will eventually get him to face justice.

While the police were frantically working to reduce the traffic congestion that the accident created, the business man Mr. Emmanuel Okolie appealed to the authorities and the police to ensure the errant commercial bus driver was apprehended to face the law and repair the vehicles that were damaged from his recklessness. He also appealed to the government to establish adequate monitoring and ensure that PHCN provides high quality materials for customers to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in the future.

He said the operation took place around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday in Sabuwar Gandu Phase one in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

"Unfortunately the IEDs inside the car exploded on them and shattered their bodies."

The Army spokesperson said there was no fatality on the side of the JTF members but that two soldiers sustained injuries from the blast.

He said the five women and several innocent children found in the house would have died together with the suspects if they had succeeded in detonating all the IEDs.

Celebrities Flaunting Their Pop Phones (Photos)... Can You Use Any Of These?

When I first saw this phone last year I could not help but wonder how on earth someone can move about with such gadget, but guess I was wrong because some celebrities and even Nigeria's very own Funke Akindele aka Jenifa, been spotted flaunting their pop phones and to me it looks just ok and convenient for them.

According to the manufacturers of the gadgets:
The Pop Phone handset is the more quirky and colourful alternative.

The Pop Phone looks just like the receiver that you find on those telephones from the nineties.

Allows access to phone functions when making calls

Eliminates over 99% of absorbed phone radiation

Turn your tablet into a telephone via Skype or VOIP applications

It has a Noise reduction system

Fortunately, all that's about to change thanks to the technologically advanced but wonderfully retro Pop Phone. Simply plug this highly evocative hunk of soft-touch plastic into your iPhone (or iPad or laptop for VOIP/Skype calls) and you'll be the envy/laughing stock of all those who encounter you. It's even got an old-style curly wurly cable.

Interesting! My point is how convenient is it carrying this gadgets around?

Armed Robbers Dressed In Police Uniforms To Attack A Punchman At Checkpoint

A gang of six armed robbers dressed in police uniform on Friday morning, attacked a member of staff of Punch Newspapers, Mr. Adeshina Afolabi, on Dolphin Estate Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, and robbed him of cash and valuables at gun point.

Afolabi said he was stopped for a search by the men, whom he took for the regular policemen that usually stayed at the spot.

He said each of the men was armed with a gun and charged at him at the same time, threatening to shoot if he refused to surrender every valuable thing he had with him, including cash.

He told our correspondent that apart from cash, he lost his phones, Automated Teller Machine cards, Punch identity card, a bag and other documents to the marauding men.

Afolabi said the robbers told him that they spared the car he was driving because of Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, whose music CD he was playing in the car.

He said, "After they took everything on me, they removed the Pasuma CD from the car stereo and asked me to go because of Pasuma.

"They did not touch me because I cooperated with them. They even removed the jacket I was wearing because one of them said he loved it.

"But immediately I left them, I saw a team of policemen on patrol and I quickly reported what had just happened to me, but they did nothing, even though it was just a few metres away from the spot where I was robbed. One of them said they would check whether the robbers would still be there, apparently to persuade me to go."

The case was reported at the Dolphin Estate Police Station.
