President Goodluck Renames UNILAG, As Moshood Abiola University

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday morning paid tribute to the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, the late Chief MKO Abiola, and other heroes and martyrs of democracy for serving as catalysts for the emergence of civilian government in 1999.
In a speech to the nation, Jonathan said they made huge sacrifices and ensured that military dictatorship became a thing of the past.
In honour of Abiola, he said,

 “The Federal Government has decided that late Chief MKO Abiola should be honoured. In honour of Chief MKO Abiola, the University of Lagos is renamed the Moshood Abiola University.”

JAMB To Introduce UTME e-testing In 2013

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board will commence the conduct of e-testing of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination next year.
Registrar and Chief Executive of the Board, Professor Dibu Ojerinde made this known on Monday in Abuja when he received members of Senate Committee on Education.
Ojerinde said the board has concluded arrangement for the partial introduction of the e-testing for first two years, adding that it would be fully implemented after the test run.
The Registrar disclosed that plans were already on for the establishment of e-testing centres.
The Minister of Education had last week urged universities in the country to establish centres that would also be used by JAMB for the e-testing exercise.

Parents Of Quadruplets Cries Out: 'We Can’t Pay Hospital Bills'

A couple, Samuel and  Joy Chukwukaelo, who had quadruplets last Thursday at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, has said their immediate challenge is how to pay the babies’ hospital bills and take care of their immediate needs.

The couple, who have two girls before the birth of the quadruplets, told our correspondent on Sunday that they could not raise fund for the bill.

Joy, a teacher at Second ECWA Nursery and Primary School, Amilegbe, Ilorin, said the babies -two boys and two girls- were delivered without complications.

She described the night before the delivery of the babies as the toughest day during the pregnancy, saying she could not sleep throughout the night.

Joy said, “This one is special.  It is multi-pregnancy. I cannot compare this with the others. We did not take any special medication.  It was just a normal relation with my husband.

Tonight, British mother-of-two Lindsay Sandiford was languishing in a Bali jail cell after being arrested for allegedly smuggling £1.6million of cocaine.

The man claimed she used to have men coming and going from her house at all hours of the night, and the police were regular visitors because she had trouble keeping her two boys in school.

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole Files Lawsuit And Denies Report That He Impregnaed A 16- Year-Old Girl

Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, on Monday denied reports that he impregnated a 16- year old girl.   

Oshiomhole spoke while testifying as first prosecution witness in a suit between him and Dockland Communications Limited, publishers of News of the People Magazine.   

The hearing took place in a Benin High Court on Monday.

The governor had dragged Dockland Communications to court, asking for unspecified amount of money as damages for the publication by the company which alleged that he impregnated the under-age girl.   

He told the court that the content of the publication, which came out sometimes last year with a front page caption - “Oshiomhole’s Sex Power Exposed: Impregnates young girl six months after death of wife” was scandalous.

A study has shown “sudden coital death” to be more common when a man was meeting his mistress outside his family home than when he was with his wife.

The precise reasons for the increase are not clear, although a guilty conscience, stress from keeping the affair a secret, a demands of a younger women have been put forward in explanation.

The correlation between unfaithfulness and major cardiovascular events was highlighted by Italian researchers, who studied medical literature on the effects of infidelity.

Using key terms such as “unfaithfulness” and “extramarital affair”, they analysed the frequency and context of heart attacks in men.

In doing so, they found both fatal and non-fatal heart attacks were relatively rare when a man indulged in intercourse with his wife, but more frequent when he was with a lover.

Tuberculosis Infected Beef In Circulation In Edo State....Says Director Of Veterinary Services

Tuberculosis infested beef which can be regarded as poisonous, is in circulation in Edo State, officials of the Edo State Veterinary Services have said. Giving the warning in Benin at the weekend, the Director, Veterinary Services, Dr. Charles Aibaogun said the infested beef is being sold in markets by traders who bought them from unapproved slaughter houses across the state.

He said some of the infested organs were discovered in the course of meat inspection in an abattoir in Benin City.

“Officials have uncovered a generalized case of tuberculosis infested beef which on inspection revealed modular lesions (or infested sites) which enveloped the surface of the various organs of the slaughtered cow”, he said.

He said the nodules are not easily destroyed by normal cooking process, adding that it is only meat inspection that can eliminate that kind of disease.

Dr. Aibaogun, who advised Edo people to purchase their meat from government approved abattoirs to ensure disease-free beef, said the rigorous inspection of meat by his officials was based on a tip off about tuberculosis infested cows being slaughtered in the state.

Football Star Who Was Wrongly Accused Of RAPE And Jailed 6 Years Wants $219,000 Compensation

A former high school football who was wrongfully accused of rape and sentenced to six years in prison now wants the State of California to pay him for every day he had spent behind bars.

Attorneys representing 26-year-old Brian Banks said their client is entitled to $100 a day for every day of his incarceration under state law.
Banks was exonerated this week after his accuser, Wanetta Gibson, admitted she had made up the whole story of sexual assault ten years ago and had been reluctant to come forward because of a large settlement she received from the school district.

Wanetta Gibson, contacted Banks to say he had not raped her - but would not admit it to prosecutors as she feared she would have to pay back $1.5 million won in a case against the school

US Government Report Highlights 13 Ways the Nigerian Government is Similar to Boko Haram

Only this week we discovered due to a foreign source, that our President, Attorney General and other high level members of the cabinet are involved in a $ 1.1 billion oil block scam that was initiated by Abacha, sustained by Obasanjo and perfected by Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Their names reading like the holy trinity of corruption – Northerner, South-Westerner and Southerner, separated by religious lines but amalgamated by greed and corruption.

Another bombshell dropped this week from foreign sources again, the United States State Department released a report on the corruption and human rights abuses of this administration.  Whilst reading the report one isn’t sure if even the American bureaucrats know the difference between Boko Haram and the Nigerian government.

1. “The most serious human rights problems during the year were the abuses committed by the militant sect known as Boko Haram, which was responsible for killings, bombings, and other attacks throughout the country, resulting in numerous deaths, injuries, and the widespread destruction of property; abuses committed by the security services with impunity, including killings, beatings, arbitrary detention, and destruction of property; and societal violence, including ethnic, regional, and religious violence.”

28-Year-Old Corps Member Who Died And Resurrected Is Now Blind

Twenty-eight-year-old Daniel Adeigba Oluwatobiloba has been eating the bread of agony since he miraculously woke up in a mortuary, following an accident that ultimately left him practically blind. An indigene of Ijumu in Kogi State, Daniel graduated from Kogi State University in 2010 with a degree in History and International Studies.
 He was subsequently posted to a government secondary school in Dindin-gari, Damaturu, Yobe State, for the national youth service programme. But his world turned upside down when he got involved in a car crash that claimed the lives of 16 of his fellow corps members while travelling to Damaturu, the place of their primary assignment. The young man tells his heart-rending tale of abandonment by the government.

When did you go for your NYSC programme and where? I went for my NYSC in 2010 and was posted to Yobe State in the North East. I spent three weeks in Fika camp for the orientation after which I was posted to Damaturu to teach at TD GSS Dindin-gari. During the festive period of 2010, we had a short break in the school I was teaching as a youth corps member. So I travelled to Enugu on December 24.
