Omehia was removed from office on October 25, 2007 because he was not the duly-nominated candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the April 2007 election.
Amaechi said that opposition politicians, who want to rule the state, had been reckless with public funds, and called on the electorate to ignore them.
Speaking on a live television programme in Port Harcourt, the state capital, Amaechi said his administration had been spending on the local economy to fix and re-invent it, noting that the move makes some to see his administration as a big spender.
"But again, we must not forget that N18 billion was spent by the Celestine Omehia government in one day – the 25th of October, 2007 – on the day the Supreme Court ousted his government," he said.
He said the government would maintain its stance on the enhanced consolidated package of 70 per cent, based on the agreement it reached with labour leaders last February, "no matter the level of blackmail".
While reacting to the strike embarked upon by lecturers of the State University of Science and Technology, he said that the 70 per cent was agreed on, after some weeks of negotiation, and wondered why they embarked on the strike.
The governor alleged that the lecturers were instigated to proceed on strike after meeting with some opposition politicians somewhere in the Government Reserved Area (G.R.A) of Port Harcourt.
The governor noted that by that action, the lecturers "are holding the future of the students of the institution to ransom".
"I have therefore decided that after the elections, I will meet with the students of the University of Science and Technology to decide how they want their institution to be run, because they are a major stockholding interest," he said.
