Northern Rioters stained nation’s glory with blood!

THE Federal Executive Council (FEC) has reviewed the violent protests in parts of the North in the past few days, which led to the death of many innocent citizens and concluded that the perpetrators have stained with blood, the glory of the country from the conduct of the widely acclaimed presidential election.

The council congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice-President Namadi Sambo for the victory at the poll and urged them to unite the nation in the march to national transformation in the years ahead.

The Minister of Information and Communications, Labaran Maku, who disclosed these while briefing State House correspondents at the end of Wednesday's meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said the council also resolved to congratulate Nigerians, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who participated in the conduct of the exercise.

According to him, "the council note with regret, however, the unprovoked and premeditated arson, violence and killings in some states of the federation by persons and groups who deployed open hatred against fellow citizens for freely voting for candidates of their choice as enshrined under our laws.

"Council strongly condemns the regrettable tendency by a few to deny our nation its progress towards the united and stable polity from the regional and ethnic divisions of the recent past, at the time the world is celebrating the glory of our presidential poll as one of the freest and fairest in our recent history."
