25 Perish In Abuja Multiple Auto Crash!

As many as 25 people were feared dead yesterday in a multiple accident involving about 10 vehicles around the Kugbo Furniture Market on the busy Abuja-Keffi expressway. An eyewitness at the scene of the accident said she counted 25 bodies, but the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said the multiple road accident claim 20 lives.
Confirming the incident, NEMA's chief press secretary, Yushau A. Shuaib, said that the
accident occurred when the driver of a trailer lost control of the vehicle and crashed into two commuter buses. Other cars were said to have crashed into the scene, worsening the casualty rate.
According to him, the injured victims have been taken to Asokoro General Hospital for treatment.
There were fears that the casualty figure could rise as some of the survivors were in critical conditions. The
accident occurred at about 4 pm yesterday, when many residents of the FCT who live in the suburbs were retiring home after closing from work.
Our reporter who was at the scene of the accident said that a Keffi-bound trailer loaded with iron rods lost control and rammed into an electric pole, and crashed into two commercial buses fully loaded with passengers, killing all the
passengers. Another fatal accident also occurred in Nyanya, along the same axis, yesterday. As a result of the accident, there was heavy traffic congestion along the road which is the only route linking the FCT and Nasarawa State.
