Another building collapses in Lagos...2 dead and 6 injured!

Fashola orders demolition of defective buildings

Two persons have been confirmed dead and six others injured when a storey building collapsed at No. 20 Doyin Omololu Street in Ketu area of Lagos state.

The unfortunate incidence which occurred at about 4.30pm on Friday was caused by a new floor being erected to the already weak structure by the landlord.

An eye witness Mr. Ayodele Ojo, told our reporter that the landlord of the house whom he described as Marshal was erecting a new floor to the building whose foundation was originally designed for a storey building.

"I just got home from work and was barely settling down when we heard the noise and by the time we came out we discovered that it was the building that has just collapsed. I was lucky because I passed through that place on my way home and I saw the workers that were raising the last floor working".

Ojo who gave the identity of the two deceased as labourers working on the newly erected floor said the workmen were lifting building material up before it finally collapsed trapping two of them to the flour with two others sustaining injury.

"There were about four of them (workers) there and the two people that died were lifting the building material from one point to the constructed floor unfortunately the weight was too heavy for the house because the initial foundation was designed for one floor and the building gave in pining the two labourers down while the others while the others were lucky to have sustained minor injury.

He explained that two other occupant of the building with a baby sustained injury and were rushed to the hospital by the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA).
