Boko Haram: 36 Chadians, 9 Cameroonians killed in Borno!

No fewer than 36 nationals of Chad Republic and Cameroon were said to have been killed at the local 'Burkuttu' joint at Dala Kabamti ward of Maiduguri metropolitan when gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram opened fire at the 'Burkuttu' joint in Borno State, recently.

Speaking with Sunday Tribune, leader of the Chadian/Cameroon community in Dala ward of Maiduguri, Mr Mbairane Mbaimag, said that majority of the people in Dala Kabamti were either Chadians or Cameroonians and that many of the people were re-locating to their country of origin following the merciless attack on them by the gunmen.

Mr. Mbaimag also told Sunday Tribune that most of them had stayed in Nigeria for more than 30 years and had built most of the beautiful houses in Maiduguri, and that they had lived in peace with the people, adding that drinking to them was part of their cultural heritage and that they always enjoyed it after a hard day job as must of them were bricklayers.

He said, "We have served Nigeria; some of us are retired military personel, others are retired policemen, while some us are labourers and bricklayers. We do not look for anybody's trouble as we are peace loving, but the incident last week and its aftermath, especially when the soldiers came; most of us did not feel good about it, because after the gunmen came and killed our people, soldiers also came and subjected us to torture. I have lived in Nigeria for 40 years, some of us 30 and 20 years, but we have never seen such a thing like that. We pray God to help us forget such a shocking incident as we lost 36 people.
