Residents of Lugbe community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were penultimate week left in awe as they witnessed one of the most vicious love battles ever in the area.
This is as what started as a normal girl fight between two friends, Glory and Julie, resulted in the loss of an ear by one of the girls.
But what could have led to the fight?
Investigations reveal that it was a fight for the love of a man.
The duo who are both hairstylists were said to have had a quarrel over a man whose identity they tried very hard to protect even in the course of the quarrel.
An eyewitness who was privy to the development from the very beginning told LEADERSHIP that following the quarrel between the girls, who are both members of the Assemblies of God Church, Lugbe, the youth president of the church, who was simply identified as Sister Charity, sent for the two of them so that they could resolve the matter.
He said that on arrival at Sister Charity’s house, Glory met her rival Julie, who was already in Sister Charity’s room narrating her side of the problem.
“Immediately she entered the room, Julie pounced on her and the lethal fighting ensued.
“However, before Charity who was still on her bed due to tiredness occasioned by her participation in a vigil she attended the previous night could rise from her bed to separate them, the two were already entangled in a vicious fight,” he said.
Charity, he continued, called out to her neighbours to come and assist her separate the duo, but before help could come, Julie had already bitten off Glory’s right ear lobe, an attack she later explained was in retaliation for an earlier bite she had received from Glory.
After a fruitless search, the neighbours who were taken aback, concluded that Julie may have swallowed the missing ear lobe, making many of them to suggest that jungle justice be meted on her. They were however divided on the consequences of such an action and this prompted them to report the matter to the Lugbe police station, causing residents to throng the police station to catch a glimpse of Julie, who had already been tagged a cannibal.
“We searched the room and the immediate environment for the part that she bit off but we could not find it. Though I did not see her chewing the ear, it was alleged that Julie ate the missing ear,” an eyewitness said.
In their separate statements at the police station, both ladies agreed that they were at the house of Sister Charity to find a lasting solution to their issue when fighting broke out between them, even as they resisted every effort to find out what could have possibly led to the fight which later became bloody.
When asked if she ate the ear lobe as was being rumoured, Julie said she spat it out after it fell off Glory’s head.
“I did not swallow it, maybe it was inside the blood stained handkerchief I was holding after we were separated.
Another eyewitness in her own account said, “Julie and Glory became uncomfortable with each other due to the fact that they both shared one man as a lover, amongst other things.
“When the two of them discovered that both of them were sharing the same man they started to pick on one another in quarrels over irrelevant issues that ordinarily wouldn’t cause any argument.”
A source who claimed to know Julie very well also told LEADERSHIP that he knew her as Ada and that she was formerly living with her elder sister in the sister’s matrimonial home in Lugbe, but that the sister’s husband had to send her out of his home because of her troublesome nature.
The source added that Julie was notorious for picking quarrels with people, adding that only recently, she was involved in an altercation where she was working as a hairstylist which resulted in a fight, and that she destroyed property worth about N35, 000 in the shop, which she had to pay for.
“I know Ada very well; her in-law who sells apples is my friend. How she came to be known as Julie is what I do not know. She used to live with him, but her troublesome nature made him to eject her from his house and her sister was helpless about it as she was a disgrace to her.
“When Ada left her in-law’s house, she started dating his brother, who got her a job where she was working until last month when she destroyed a dryer and other valuable equipment in the shop as she fought with her employer. She was arrested and brought to the police station where the matter was resolved. Do you know the boyfriend paid N35, 000 after much pleading from him and other sympathizers?” the source added.
He said what made it more disturbing was that both women were friends and that they worshipped in the same church, stressing that the man in question was not worth the trouble, as he would not even marry either of them.
The suspected cannibal was remanded in police custody, pending when she would be arraigned to court.
