Hoodlums numbering seven on Wednesday reportedly killed an Assistant Superintendent of Police [ASP], Mr. Amisu Arogunrerin in Owo, Ondo State.
Eyewitnesses said a gang of armed robbers had laid ambush for a team of policemen from the 'B' division of the Nigeria Police force in Owo Area command, along Ekoro Road at Emure-Ile junction in the Owo local government area.
It was learnt that the bandits opened fire on the security operatives and shot dead, the leader of the police team, late Arogunrerin.
Arogunrerin, also known as 'Abioye e' was until his untimely death, serving at the Emure-Ile Police post.
The Nation learnt that the ASP was on duty when information got to him about a robbery incident and rushed there to verify the authenticity of the distress call. He was accompanied by some officers.
The State Police Public Relations Officer [PPRO], Mr. Aremu Adeniran, confirmed the incident, stressing that investigation has commenced on the case.
