500,000 People Fleeing Maiduguri To Seek Refuge In Bauchi!

Is Bauchi now safer?
The Bauchi State commissioner of police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba has said over 500,000 persons fleeing the crisis in Maiduguri have moved into the state to seek refuge.

Aduba who disclosed this to newsmen yesterday in Bauchi, said that the large influx of people into Bauchi has come with its attendant security challenges.

The police commissioner said while investigation showed than some were able to find accommodation with relatives; many others have not been able to do so and expressed concern that if not properly resettled many of this category of people would resort to criminal activities.

Aduba who is newly posted to Bauchi described the past few days since his assumption of duty as 'very tough' in his career as a police officer, and expressed optimism that the command under his leadership would surmount the security challenges.

He said that the 24 hour surveillance and patrol would be sustained and boosted as a crime preventive strategy, adding that a regular meeting with vigilante groups in parts of the state has been initiated as parts of efforts to addressing security problems in the state.

The police boss also said that the police-community relations in state was excellent and called on members of the public not to shy from helping the police with information that would lead to arrests of criminals.
My question still remains, is Bauchi now safer? Your comments/opinions in the column box below.
