Man Gets 4 Weeks In Jail For Stealing Transformer!

An Abuja Senior Magistrate's Court on Tuesday sentenced a 24-year-old man Danjuma Ochioda to four weeks imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of joint act and theft.

The police prosecutor, Mr Jeremaih Elijah, had told the court that on July 24, the convict and one Nweke Ezekiel, 28 were arrested by policemen on patrol team along Airport Road Abuja.

Elijah said that Ochioda a gardener at the Trade Fair Complex Airport Road, Abuja, conspired with Ezekiel an electrician, to steal the transformer in the complex without the consent of the authorities.

He said that the accused were caught in the act by policemen, who took them to the Lugbe Police Station, Abuja.

The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to sections 79 and 289 of the Penal Code.

Ochioda pleaded guilty to the charges, while Ezekiel denied the allegation.

Ochioda begged the court to have mercy on him and said that his mother died and left him with three younger ones to cater for.

Senior Magistrate Hadiza Shagari sentenced Ochioda to four weeks imprisonment with an option of N3,000 fine.

Shagari then granted Ezekiel bail in the sum of N100,000 and one surety in like sum.

She ordered that the surety must reside within the court's jurisdiction and adjourned the case to Aug. 24 for hearing.
