Oprah Sued For Trademark Infringement Over "Own Your Power" Mantra!

Simone Kelly-Brown and Own Your Power Communications, Inc., a motivational communication services company, has claimed that the “Own Your Power” mantra – a phrase that has been used on Winfrey’s television network, website, and O publication – is originally theirs.

The company, which filed a lawsuit against Winfrey and Harpo Productions on Thursday, is seeking damages for Winfrey’s “brazenly unlawful disregard for the existence and use of [OTP's] trademark.”

The suit continues, “Under such circumstances, with [Winfrey and Harpo] being much larger, spending more money, having a wider reach, and an overlapping audience with the much smaller Company, particularly with one of the most influential women in the world at the helm … [OTP has] been irreparably harmed.”

A Harpo spokesperson responded in a statement to EW: "Harpo has not been served and we have no information about what allegations are being made.”
