1 Person Dead & Several Others Severely Injured As 3-Storey Building Collapses In Abuja(Photos)
One person was feared dead, Saturday,   after  7 persons were trapped  in a defected two-storey building owned by the Nigerian Navy .

Vanguard gathered that two people were critically injured as they were  rescued and taken to  Wuse General Hospital  while  four others   were said to have sustained minor injuries.

Vanguard investigations revealed that a total of 15 persons were said to have resumed work at the defected building at about 7.50 am on Saturday and were still working when a part of the building collapsed at about 10.30 a.m.

Director Information of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Kabir Aliyu told Vanguard that naval engineers had discovered that the building was defected as the Navy quickly moved their staff  away from the building and marked it for demolition.

Aliyu said that the Nigerian Navy had contacted the relevant authorities in respect to the demolition including the Federal Housing Authority and the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.


His words:  "This building belongs to the Nigerian Navy and when our engineers notice some structural defects in the building, they reported to us and we quickly moved all the occupants of the building from it.

"We went to FHA which directed us to liaise with Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development. The Ministry charged us N49,000 per floor but the Navy requested for some papers from the Ministry before payment was made just yesterday (Friday) and suddenly today, Saturday, the building collapsed"

Commodore Aliyu confirmed the death  of one person and two others severely injured.
