Police Impound Smuggled Consignment Of Military Uniforms In Kano

A large consignment of military uniforms allegedly slipped into the country through the Nigeria/Niger Republic border in Katsina State was on Sunday night impounded by the Nigeria Police in Kano.
The military uniforms, believed to have been smuggled,  were seized from a warehouse, close to the Kano Pillars Stadium in the Sabon Gari area of Kano State.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, who confirmed the seizure to journalists,  pointed out that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had begun investigations into the matter.

The police commissioner also confirmed the arrest of some suspects in connection with the smuggled goods, pointing out that they were being interrogated by the police.
Idris further disclosed that the suspects presented documents indicating that the consignments were authorized by the Ministry of Defence.
He said, “We are trying to establish the authenticity and authorship of the document purported to have come from the Ministry of Defence. “Right now, we cannot say much about this incident until we have carried out our investigations.”
It would be recalled that the Kano/Jigawa Command of Nigeria Customs Services (NCS) recently impounded large quantities of military uniforms, comprising Air Force uniforms and army camouflage.
The CP further said that the uniform were genuinely imported, saying owners havd printed documents and were consequently released. He added that the police contacted Defence Ministry which confirmed the development
