Top Fashion Disaster At The Golden Globes Red Carpet

Grey hair aside, Kelly Osbourne had been doing so well on the red carpet circuit of late. But that all came to an end last night with her choice for the Golden Globes.
The E! Fashion Police judge, 27, failed to live up to her reputation as a trendsetter in an over-the-top blue Zac Posen gown that swamped her now-petite frame.
An attempt to look sleek and streamlined ended in failure, landing her the title of the ceremony's worst-dressed, a spot she shares with her mother Sharon.

Fashion fail: She may present E!'s Fashion Police, but Kelly Osbourne's bold, blue Zac Posen gown swamped her now-petite frame, seemingly wearing her rather than the other way around
A scraped-back hairdo was too severe for Kelly's face, while the angular puff sleeves and fishtail hem seemed overwhelming, and gave the impression that the dress was wearing her, rather than the other way around.

In the genes: While Sharon Osbourne's formal number was actually ok in terms of cut and shape, the white fabric, with its floral print, took the look downhill into Von Trapp curtain creation territory

Her hippie-style bangles and rings also looked too fussy against the patterned bodice of her gown, and her clutch, perhaps intended to co-ordinate, was the wrong shade of coral entirely.
Sarah Michelle Gellar took a fashion risk in her Monique Lhuillier ballgown, but the tie-dye-style print was over-the-top. The look would have been far more successful with a plain fabric.
Lady Victoria Hervey
Lady Victoria Hervey, apparently still trying to make it as a Hollywood star, also drew attention to herself for all the wrong reasons. Her dress was so ill-fitting, that the seam designed to run beneath the bustline ran across her breasts instead, giving her a curiously-flat-chested look.
Erin Wasson
Erin Wasson stood out as a classic candidate. Yes, Erin, we all know you have a stunning supermodel body, but a barely-there dress like that will still not win you any style points.
Emily Watson
Emily Watson  played it too safe

Daring to be different: Critics were also divided on Sarah Michelle Gellar's painterly ballgown

Kudos, though, to these stars for actually taking some risks. It is such sartorial bravery that makes the fashion at these events so interesting to follow.
Actress Emily Watson played it too safe, a decision that backfired in a spectacular way.
The barely-there hue of her dress was perhaps too 'nude', in that it was actually the same shade as her skin.
The armholes were too small, and the upper part of the bodice too tight, but the  waistband seemed too loose, so there was nothing to flatter her figure at all.  Her shoes, too should have been more delicate - the large platforms peeking from the hem of her gown looked clumsy.

Fashion blues: Cameron Diaz also failed to impress in her blue and black lace dress. The racer neckline had the unfortunate effect of accentuating her muscular shoulders and arms, giving quite a masculine effect
Adding insult to injury, the actress's necklace was all wrong for such a formal event, the oversized chains seemed too lightweight, and some diamonds might have lifted the look more effectively.

Naya Rivera
Also making the worst-dressed round-up were Glee's Naya Rivera, who chose a slinky grey dress that was dominated by a large seam running down the front.
Amanda Peet
Amanda Peet, like many stars, wore white, but, proving just how easily a hot trend can go wrong, the layers of white lace and ankle-length hem were more akin to a Victorian nightgown than red carpet formalwear.
Laura Linney
And Laura Linney's shiny purple number looked both dated and like it was falling apart at the seams.

Lea Thompson
At least she wore an evening gown though. Some stars seemed far too underdressed for such a formal occasion. Actress Lea Thompson looked like she was dressed for a garden party in her above-the-knee printed dress, which she teamed with clunky black platform sandals.
Mekenna Melvin
Mekenna Melvin's orange corseted style seemed to have been made of a rather cheap fabric, that did not benefit from a white layer beneath, and creased in all the wrong places.
Malin Akerman
Malin Ackerman fared batter in her pleated Twenties-style frock, but it would have been nice to see her in an evening gown, more befitting of the occasion.
