Outbreak Of Meningitis Killing Prisoners At Yola Prison

Seven inmates of the Yola Prison in Adamawa State have been confirmed dead due to an epidemic.

Prison authorities in the state said that several others have been infected by the strange ailment, suspected to be an outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis.

Medical experts are currently conducting tests to determine the cause of the deaths.

Some of the inmates, who did not want their names published, said the epidemic was caused by over congestion and climate change; and have appealed to the athorities to initiate an immunisation exercise.

Reacting, the state government has ordered the Ministry of Health to dispatch vaccines to other prisons.
