65 Years Old Man Tortured To Death by police in Minna

ANI Mohammed, 65 has been tortured to death while undergoing an interrogation in the hands of police in Minna, Niger State, sources told Daily Trust.
The deceased, who was arrested two days before the fateful day, was tortured by men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the state police command.

Late Sani Mohammed was arrested in connection with the theft of N1.7 million at Bomas Supermarket in Minna that was said to have been perpetrated by two staff of the super market who confessed to have given half of the stolen money to the deceased.

The deceased was said to be a dry cleaner, who enjoyed high patronage from the staff of Bomas supermarket and that he got into trouble when the stolen money was hidden in a bag of clothes brought to him for dry cleaning by one of the suspects.

When late Sani discovered that there was a bag containing a huge amount of money in the clothes brought to him for dry cleaning, he drew the attention of the man that brought the clothes and that in appreciation the man gave him N5,000.

Our correspondent gathered that the director of the supermarket reported the case to police and that led to the arrest of all the staff of the super market.

Upon interrogation, two of the suspects confessed to have stolen the money and further claimed to have given N700, 000 to late Mohammed.

The deceased was said to have denied the allegation but insisted that he was given only N5,000 in appreciation for his honesty.

Contacted over the matter, the State Command's Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Richard Oguche said, late Sani Mohammed was a robbery suspect, who was arrested along side two others, adding that the deceased died of cardiac arrest as confirmed when he was taken to the hospital.
