South Africa Launches New Nelson Mandela Bank Notes

 South Africa has immortalised former president Nelson Mandela in a set of new banknotes bearing  a smiling Mandela on the front and images of the country’s “Big Five” wild animals on the reverse.

This is the latest monument to the 94-year-old anti-apartheid icon.

6 Ph.D, 704 Masters And Over 8,460 Bachelor Degree Holders Apply To Be Truck Drivers In Dangote Group

It was almost unbelievable when Dangote Group announced that it received a staggering 13,000 applications from graduates for employment as truck drivers. And the most heartbreaking is the fact fact of the 13,000 applications received for the Graduate Executive Truck Driver positions, there were 6 Ph.D, 704 Masters and over 8,460 Bachelor degree holders.
Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said that the company only needed 100 drivers, but received the overwhelming applications.

Relief Materials For Nigeria’s Flood Victims Diverted

Two civil society groups, UK-based Tearfund and the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) have expressed “concerns that relief funds and materials allocated to cater for the needs of the displaced persons and victims of floods in several parts of the country are not reaching those who need them.”

The groups in a joint public statement made on Sunday and signed by Tearfund Country Representative, Danladi Musa, and SERAP Executive Director, Adetokunbo Mumuni, said there was serious lack of transparency in the handling of the victims’ welfare.

 Renowned Nigerian designer, Remi Osholake of Remi Lagos is dead. The designer reportedly died  of Ovarian cancer which was just diagnosed in October 2012.

Remi has been a fundamental part of the Nigerian fashion industry for over two decades. Her signature kaftans were best sellers and she showed at fashion shows all over the world.

 She was 51 years old.

Lagos State Government To Turn Dana Crash Site To A Memorial

The Lagos State Government is to turn the site of the June 3, 2012 Dana plane crash into a memorial of the victims of the accident.
Governor Babatunde Fashola said this during the presentation of 2013 budget proposal to the state’s lawmakers on Wednesday.
He said,
