Relief Materials For Nigeria’s Flood Victims Diverted
Two civil society groups, UK-based Tearfund and the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) have expressed “concerns that relief funds and materials allocated to cater for the needs of the displaced persons and victims of floods in several parts of the country are not reaching those who need them.”
The groups in a joint public statement made on Sunday and signed by Tearfund Country Representative, Danladi Musa, and SERAP Executive Director, Adetokunbo Mumuni, said there was serious lack of transparency in the handling of the victims’ welfare.

4 Farmers Commit Suicide Over Flood Disaster In Kogi State
Four farmers in Kogi State have committed suicide as a result of losses they incurred due to flood just as thousands of others have been displaced. President Goodluck Jonathan disclosed this yesterday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital while undertaking a tour of the areas affected by flood.
Speaking in Yenagoa, President Jonathan said,
“In Kogi State, four farmers committed suicide because they borrowed money from the bank to buy seeds and flood came and destroyed it.

President Jonathan Visits Flooded Victims In Kogi State
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Thursday (today) visited flooded parts of Kogi State.
The visit is the first phase of an inspection tour of Nigerian states affected by the flood.
In the phase, President Jonathan will also visit flooded parts of Anambra State, Delta State, Bayelsa State and Rivers State.

Igbinedion University Boys Hostel Goes Up In Flames
Igbinedion University Old Boys hostel, room 183-186 M Block went up in flames last night. Students of the University alleged that the inferno was caused by poor electrical wiring. No life was however lost in the incident except for some students personal valuables.

Over 20 Students Killed In Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Adamawa State
At least 20 people, mostly students, have been killed by unknown gunmen in Mubi, north-eastern Nigeria, a police source has told the BBC.
The attack happened at a student hostel away from the Federal Polytechnic Mubi campus, the source said.
A lecturer told the BBC that more than 40 students had been killed but there has been no official comment.

Fire guts Dangote sugar factory in Apapa
Some parts of Dangote Sugar factory in Apapa were Sunday night destroyed by fire.
The fire, lasted for more than four hours between 7pm and 11pm.
The firm is one of the largest sugar producing companies in Africa that supplies sugar to some African countries like Ghana, Borkina- Faso and Cameron.

Heavy Rainfall Washes Up 500 Copses From The Graves And Displaces 10,000 Residents
It was a horrible sight at Jajeri Moslem Cemetery in Maiduguri and Jere Council Area, when over 500 dead bodies were washed up from their graves during a heavy rainfall in Borno State that lasted for nearly two days. Over 10,000 residents were displaced and property worth millions of Naira destroyed.

Four Chinese employees from state oil firm CNPC and two French crew members were killed in a helicopter crash in Niger's Tenere desert, two Nigerien security sources said on Monday.

2,105 Buildings Washed Away By Flood In Ibadan
The chairman of the Oyo State Task Force on Flood Prevention and Management, Dr Bolanle Wahab, has disclosed that a total of 2,105 buildings were washed away by the flood disaster which ravaged the city of Ibadan on August 26, 2011.
He also said that a total sum of N4.31 billion would be required by the state government to construct 25 bridges and culverts in all the affected areas across all the 11 local government areas of the state capital.

Earthquake Hit China...26 Injured!
The earthquake in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Thursday afternoon has injured 26 people, including three in a critical condition, a local spokesman said.
