World Bank Removes Nigeria, Others From Aids’ List

Developing countries including Nigeria are no longer candidates for charity and aid from developing countries, the World Bank has said.

The outgoing World Bank President, Robert Zoellick, disclosed this at the on-going International Monetary Fund/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington DC, United States of America.

Specifically, he said since the "developing countries have provided two-thirds of global growth over the past years, these are no longer charity cases."

Noting that developing countries "are vital to the world economy," Zoellick, whose five-year tenure elapses on June 30, this year, nonetheless, stressed the need for both developing and developed countries to focus on structural reforms that will be the drivers of future growth, "otherwise the world will keep stumbling along."

Federal Government Denies Plan To Create Boko Haram Detention Centre In Lagos

A secret detention centre for Boko Haram suspects in Lagos?

A foreign agency report on Thursday, quoting an unnamed top security official, says the government has opened a secret centre in Lagos "to hold and interrogate suspected high-level" members of the violent Islamic sect.

But the Federal Government on Thursday denied any move to create such a facility in Lagos.

Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, told our correspondent on telephone that the government had no such plan, adding that the counter-terror strategy of the government did not include such a facility.

He said, "To the best of my knowledge, there is no such. The prisons in Lagos are full already and we are not contemplating any movement of terror suspects to anywhere."

The Nigerian Prisons Service also said it was not aware of any plan to move Boko Haram suspects to prisons in Lagos.

Intresting Revelation: Kidnappers In Edo State Confess That It’s More Profitable To Kidnap Than To Rob

That cool Thursday evening, Mr. Frank Idemudia and Princess Onaiwo were cruising in their Infinity four wheel drive.  The car's stereo system produced melodious tunes as they drove along Olutu Road, in the heart of Benin City, the Edo State capital.

Meanwhile, as they enjoyed their ride, little did they know that danger was lurking in one corner of the next adjourning street!  Suddenly, reminiscent of a commando-style double-cross, a Toyota Camry car punctuated their blissful pleasure.  The Camry was unmarked.  From the bowels of the Camry alighted two fierce-looking armed men.  Their instruction was simple yet dangerous.

"Get down", the armed men shouted at the occupants of the Infinity SUV.  They did.

"Enter this car now", they screamed at them, pointing in the by-now-opened Camry, they ordered.  Idemudia and the Princess, obeyed with immediate alacrity.

The gunmen also entered the Camry, sandwiching their captors in the rear compartment of the Camry.  Frightened to their marrows, the captured couple could only plead for mercy.  The Infinity SUV was left, doors opened, engines running on Olotu Road.
"We are kidnappers", they rudely introduced themselves.

But had they just introduced themselves as men of the underworld, the fright of the couple would have been limited.

The gunmen added a caveat: They warned that they would only be hurt if they did not co-operate. Of course, the instruction to cooperate as clear and straight forward enough. So, while speeding away through the Murtala Mohammed way to a camp-site at Ikpoba hill where they were to be handed over to another set of bandits, a team of policemen stationed along the road flagged down the Camry.  The car was being dangerously manipulated by the driver and this attracted the attention of the Policemen.

All the occupants of the car were ordered to come down.

It was in the process of being interrogated that the captors surprisingly took to their heels abandoning their preys and arms.

That was how fate smiled on Idemudia and Princess Onaiwo.  They regained their freedom. The Camry car and the arms have since been taken to the Command headquarters for investigation.

But if Idemudia and Princess Onaiwo were lucky, the same was not the case for several others including a prominent woman and wife of the number one lawyer in the state (names withheld) who was kidnapped along 19th Street, the longest street in the state by four armed men. She only regained her freedom after coughing out millions of Naira. This has been the trend and residents of the ancient city of Benin lived with fear until quite recently when the police changed their tactics.

There have been raids carried out by the Police.  The 'receiver' of kidnapped victims who also doubles as the third in command in the hierarchy of the terror gang in the state, along with four of his cohorts where rounded up by the police in their various hideouts.

They made confessions on their respective roles in the vicious circle of kidnapping:

First to speak was the receiver of victims:

"My name is Rowel, l am 24 (years old) from Azacrama in Delta State. I (went) to Western Boys, Benin City, but I could not finish because of poverty; my father is poor – a retired soldier. My mother is a fisher woman. I was a member of one the militant groups in the Niger Delta but when government gave us amnesty, we submitted some of our arms and ammunition.

"Some of us were not listed for the amnesty programme and so we thought the way to survive is to rob. I joined a gang of armed robbers and I was making some money but not enough to assist me and my parents.

"So I quit armed robbery and went back to my old gang of militants and all over, we formed another gang of kidnapping.  I soon realized that kidnapping was much more lucrative and less stressful. But unfortunately, I have only participated in two operations and my sole responsibility is to receive victims, hand them over to a 'crosser' at the river side and call our 'generals' that we have caught a mugu.  It is the responsibility of our general to start calling and placing ransom. They collect the money and later give us our share of the loot.

I do not know how they collect the money but I had the opportunity of standing with 'general Boro' the head of the squad when he was calling a relation of our victims to bring the (ransom) money and that if he tries to involve the police, we will kill the man in our custody. His second-in-command is called Moses. The first operation earned us N5m and I received N2.3m which I shared among my men. Like I said, my role is to receive the victims from them and transfer them to the generals in the camp inside Ikpoba Hill. It is the generals that will be making the calls and subsequently collect the ransom.

The generals are still in Delta State.  The camp there is called waterside; it is one of us that own canoe that will now carry the victims over to the other side of the river. Immediately they catch a victim, they will control me (contact me) and I will receive the victims and hand over to them at the camp. Boro and Moses are the generals but Boro is the head. You know we submitted arms to the federal government but when government was not paying well, there was a quarrel between the heads so Boro went to form his own gang of which I am a member. So it is Boro and Moses that will call relations of the victims to demand for ransom. I have only participated in two kidnapping incidents and the total money we made was just N8m.

The first one was N5m, the generals took N3m and gave me N2m which I shared among the gang members, the second one was N3m and the generals took N1.5m and gave us the balance which I also shared with my men. I quit armed robbery when I discovered that it was more daring and dangerous compared to kidnapping. In kidnapping, all you need to do is intimidate the victim and they will simply obey you; and before you know it, big money has been paid. But in robbery sometimes, you can't make more than N100,000 and the victims in most cases would have secretly called the police. So it is more profitable to kidnap than to rob", he concluded.

Domestic Violence: See What A Man Did To His Wife

Graphic Content: Remember the yesterday's story:"Husband Kills His 1-Year-Old Son, Mutilates Wife
Over Alleged Infidelity"?

The Wife has opened up saying: 'My hubby used hot iron, screw driver to burn me'

As you read this piece, the 36-year-old Mercy is going through excruciating pains in a private hospital in Okota where doctors are battling to save her life.

In fact, the once bubbling woman  looks a shadow of herself, as medical report showed that she sustained a third degree burns from the hot iron her husband of two years used on her on Saturday, April 7 2012, which was exclusively reported by here {http://urlred.com/FIciY}.

Presently, the badly burnt woman maintains a particular position, by sleeping on her back. She wears an adult pampers when she eases herself, with a tissue paper by her side, with which she cleans the fluid coming out from the burns. Help, as gathered, was far from the Imo state-born woman, as none of her neighbours attempted to go and find out what was happening when she was desperately shouting for help. It was learnt that their neighbours failed to respond to her cries for help because it has become a daily occurrence.

Crime Guard gathered also that on several occasions, some of the neighbours invited policemen from Ago division who cautioned her husband after which he was made to sign an undertaking never to raise his hands on his wife.

Narrating what led to her being a patient in the hospital, Mary stated, "It  all happened on a Saturday. I had prepared boiled yam, awaiting the arrival of my husband.  After a long wait, I decided to eat mine and left his on the table. He came back few minutes to 11pm and went straight to bed. Then at about 1 a.m., power was restored and he went to put off the power generating set and switched over to electricity.

After that, he started ironing his customers' clothes because he is a dry cleaner.

The unforgettable night

I was fast asleep when I was woken up by a sharp pain on my back.  I thought it was a night mare. But when I opened my eyes, lo and behold, my husband was planting the hot iron he was using on the clothes on me. Immediately I turned, he planted it on my chest. When I raised my hand to prevent it, he planted it on one of my hands . By then I did not know what to do. I started screaming and calling on my neighbours for help. I raised my leg to prevent him, again, he landed the hot iron on me.

As he planted the hot iron hard on my flesh, he would use a screw driver to peel  off the flesh. At a point, I became too weak to shout. I begged him to stop but he would not. Rather, he would ask me to tell him how many times his father slept with me. Even in pains, I begged him to listen to himself and  imagine what he was saying. My response seemed to anger him the more because he would plant it harder, leaving it on my skin and at the same time, asked me to tell him the truth."

At this point, Crime Guard asked if she was guilty of the claim. She grimaced and replied, "How can that be? The father already has a wife."   Pausing for a while and staring at the ceiling , a position she has been maintaining for several hours,  she continued, " at that point, my baby woke up and started crying . I begged him to allow me breast feed the baby .

But before I could finish the statement, he placed the hot iron on my breasts, threatening to kill me if I shout.  As he lifted the iron, I saw that the flesh from my breast had stuck to the iron surface. Again he pressed it harder on my stomach, leaving it there. I managed to turn, only for the iron to land on my lap.

He  told me there was no way of escape for me that night, that  members of his gang were outside to take my corpse to an unknown destination by the time he finished with me.   At that point, I knew the end had come for me. I managed to shout out for help with all the strength in me  but I could not.

At that point, he forcefully  took Ebuka from the bed and went outside. I decided to go out because I did not know what he would do next when he came back. I cannot tell how I crawled out of the room. But I found myself in the kitchen  naked, from where two men who saw me gave me wrapper to cover myself.

"As I was there, trying to fathom how I would escape from the compound, somebody shouted that my husband had killed my child. That was the last thing I heard. I guessed I passed out because I later opened my eyes and found myself in the hospital."

Residents of Number 3, Lambe street, Ago confirmed to Crime Guard that they simply refused to go to Mary's rescue that night because it was late and also that her shout for help had been one too many .

One of them said, " Since they started living as husband and wife, there had never been a time we did not experience shout or crisis from their one-room apartment. It is worse any time the man came home drunk. We have even gone to report to the police when it became too much because we did not want a situation where he would kill her one day and we would be held responsible. Even at that, he did not stop.

"Several times, the woman had wanted to go back to her family but  she wouldn't. Even her father-in-law had advised her to leave when she travelled home last December because he was tired of the endless reports of his son battering his daughter in-law."

How Prison Warden Was Killed By A Police Officer While Celebrating His New Car

The deceased, Erezidor Ugo, a Prison Inspector, aged 30, is an indigene of Sabageria in the Kolokuma-Opokuma local government area of Bayelsa State while his wife, Mrs. Binafegha Ugo, a PA3  aged 25 is also a staff of the Bayelsa State Prison Command.

There were conflicting accounts of the tragic incident .While one version had it that the deceased was killed by a policeman who fired at him, another account stated that he was accidentally killed by a bullet from the rifle of one of his (Prison) colleagues as the police tried to disarm him.

When Saturday Vanguard visited the residence of the deceased close to Wisdom Estate, some distance away from the private residence of President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday morning, the young wife was grief-stricken.

Some neighbours who came to condole the bereaved woman also broke down in tears when the six year old daughter of the deceased, Tari came and asked her sobbing mother, "mummy why has daddy not returned, hope my daddy is okay? Daddy's body was covered with blood when he was taken away," the little girl said naively.

It was a sorrowful moment as his neighbours wept freely, wondering why it should be Erezidor who they described as gentle and easy going and loved by all in the neighbourhood because of his unassuming disposition.

The late Prison warder who had just returned with his wife from a wake keep at Sabageria was playing host to two of his colleagues who had come to celebrate with him on the fateful Sunday over the new car which he (deceased) bought last week when he was shot in the presence of his wife, also a prison official and her six year old daughter.

While the celebration was going on in a sit-out near his house, eye witnesses told Saturday Vanguard that one of the armed prison officials fired some shots into the air which caused panic and pandemonium within the Nikton road axis, in the heart of the state capital.

The gunshots reportedly attracted security attention and a police team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in-charge of Ekeki Police Station, Nemi Iwo rushed to the scene, few metres away from Jonathan's house. The police team was said to have noticed one of the Prison Warders carrying a gun and tried to disarm him but he allegedly refused to hand over the gun and instead removed the magazine. The deceased Ugo was said to have collected the magazine and took same to his house for safe keep.

An eyewitness said a police corporal had earlier fired a warning shot ostensibly to compel the Prison official to surrender the gun in his possession. It was learnt that as the deceased was returning to the scene of the ensuing struggle to go with the police to the station, one of the rifles triggered off and hit the deceased on the left side of his stomach and pierced through the other side, leaving him in grave danger, eyewitnesses said.

But the deceased, Ugo died on the way to the Glory land Hospital, Yenagoa where he was rushed for treatment.

Nollywood Producer Threatens To Arrest Tonto Dike

Jumping from one set to another among movie stars has become a recurring decimal in Nollywood and often results in war between the parties involved. This time around the war is between controversial Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh and a notable producer based in Asaba.

It was gathered that the controversial actress disappeared from the set since Monday, and has never bothered to show  up till this moment.

Our source said, Tonto left the set, on the pretext  that she was travelling to Lagos, only for her to  resume work in another production.

As it stands now, the producer is said to have alerted the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria(AGN), and he is threatening to get the actress arrested should she fails to return to his set latest this weekend.

"This is the height of indiscipline in Nollywood. Tonto claimed that she was travelling to Lagos and would be back on Tuesday. Only for her to join another production. We have reported the matter to the Secretary-General of AGN.

"Her absence has delayed the completion of our production which we started nine days ago. We are supposed to be rounding off this weekend but we can't. Tonto cannot disappear  with all the money we have paid her." an angry source fumed.

Directed by Nonso Ekene Okonkwo, Tonto is starring in the movie alongside Frank Atus, Queen Nwokoye, Oluchi Ukaku among other stars. The movie is titled " Blood Rage."

Delta State Leaders Vow To Monitor The Use Of James Ibori’s Loot

The Delta State Leaders, Elders and Stakeholders Forum (DSLESF) headed by the Ijaw National Leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has vowed to monitor the use of the money recovered from the convicted former Governor Chief James Ibori by the present administration. Contrary to the position expressed by some people, DSLESF said it was not opposed to the release of the funds seized from Ibori by the British Government to the administration of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan. Rather, the group vowed to monitor the use of the funds.

Ibori was on Tuesday jailed for 13 years by the Southwark Crown Court in London for corruption and money laundering while in office.

The court also ordered that money and other property recovered from Ibori be transferred to the Delta State government.

Nigerian Lawyer 'Disbarred' Before Getting License To Practice In America

A Nigerian lawyer in Michigan now holds a rather unique distinction: He's been disbarred before he even got a full-fledged license to practice law in the state.

Gbenga Anjorin, a 1992 graduate of a Nigerian law school, handled hundreds of cases -- many as a court-appointed attorney -- and even attended hearings in the so-called "Underwear Bomber's" terrorism trial, the Detroit Free Press reports.

But Anjorin's courtroom antics in a case involving five crates of nuts led to an ethics complaint, and eventually his downfall.

Gbenga Anjorin had obtained a certificate as a Special Legal Consultant in Michigan. That certificate "was limited to rendering legal advice regarding the law in Nigeria, the foreign country where he was admitted to practice," according to Michigan's Attorney Discipline Board.

But the certificate came with a "P number" -- a five-digit identifier that's given to full-fledged licensed attorneys in Michigan, the Free Press reports.

With his P number in hand, Anjorin attended seminars that made him eligible to be a court-appointed attorney in Michigan. He then set up a website that advertised his legal counsel for DUI cases -- his self-proclaimed specialty -- along with immigration and divorce cases.

But in a case involving kola nuts, Anjorin's opposing counsel questioned some documents submitted by Anjorin. She filed a complaint that revealed his unauthorized law practice and got Anjorin's special certificate revoked. The state's Attorney Discipline Board also disbarred him.

Afrocandy Audition Actors And Actresses For Her New ‘Soft-Porn’ Movies

American based Nigerian  "Ikebe Na Moni" singer and Nollywood actress, Judith Opara Mazagwu popularly known as AfroCandy is at it again. This time, she is recruiting aspiring actors and actresses basically not to make them stars in their own right, but   wants them  to act nude in her  movies.

Advertising this, on her facebook wall, on Thursday, AfroCandy admitted that it takes a  lot of guts for one to get naked in front of the Camera.

"I have scripts lined up for production and there will also be nudity in most of them. So, if you are an aspiring actor/actress, you have the passion and you will like to get naked, send in your info/contacts for casting and I look forward to meeting and working with you." she writes on her facebook wall.

Just last year, the mother of two exposed her boobs in two movies, "Destructive Instinct' which squealers said was produced by Theophilius Efe and directed by Chico Ejiro, and also "Ikebe Squard" co-produced by herself. As if that was not enough, she exposed vital parts of her body too  in the video of her album "Voodoo/Juju Woman".

Despite all the negative comments that greeted her last video, the singer was unrepentant as she  has continued with her razz mattazz of exposing her body. Little wonder, could it be that AfroCandy enjoys getting naked in front of the Camera?

Nigerian Teenager Sentenced To Life In Prison for Shooting & Paralysing 5 Year-old Girl in London

Kazeem Kolawole, a 19 year-old Nigerian was today sentenced to life in prison for a gang shooting in South London last year that left a five year-old girl, Thusha Kamaleswaran paralysed. Thusha was playing in her aunt's food and wine store in Stockwell, when she was accidentally shot in the chest during the shootout.

Kolawole was an accomplice to ring leader Nathaniel Grant, 21 who actually carried out the shooting and 'sidekick' Anthony McCalla, 20. The trio from the Organised Criminals gang, cycled to the store intending to kill rival gangster Roshaun Bryan of rival gang 'All Bout Money'. However, the hit was botched and they ended up hitting young Thusha and seriously wounded another innocent bystander, Roshan Selvakumar in the attack.

While Roshan Selvakumar, 35, was shot in the face and still has bullet fragments lodged in his skull, Thusha would spend the rest of her life on a wheelchair and would need care for the rest of her life. The two were innocent victims of the gang feud.

The shooting, on March 29, 2011 was captured on the store's CCTV camera and showed the emotional moments when the shy five-year-old with pigtails, danced happily in the aisles of her aunt's small store. Moments later, she was knocked down by a bullet to the chest fired through the store's open door by the three men as they pursued members of a rival gang.

Now six, Thusha is paralyzed from her chest downwards and remains in a wheelchair as her parents' world have been turned upside down. Her family has been left battling debt and her mother is said to have suffered insomnia and depression.

The three were found guilty in an Old Bailey Court last month of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to the girl and Selvakumar, plus the attempted murder of Bryan. Judge Martin Stephens QC said none of them had shown a "shred of remorse" since the trial began.

It was also revealed at the court that the three of them should have been in jail long before. Grant, known as 'Killa Buzz', was cleared of an almost identical gangland murder and released from prison just weeks earlier; McCalla was on bail over a vicious bus brawl and probation staff considered recalling him to prison hours before Thusha was shot while Kolawole had recently been spared prison for beating a schoolgirl and was wearing an electronic tag while on bail for carrying a knife.

‘I watched with horror as robbers raped my wife’....Mr Nwakama

Nwakama's broken head

Saturday, April 13, 2012, could pass for a very bad day for some South East-bound commuters. That day, dare devil armed robbers, attacked them, near Okada town, in Edo State. Nwakama (other names withheld), a Lagos-based businessman, was one of the victims of the robbery attack.

Narrating to Saturday Sun his bad experience, he revealed that he and his wife had boarded at Berger, at the boundary between Lagos and Ogun states, on their way to attend the burial of his wife's uncle in Delta State. He said he intended to travel in the night but his wife suggested they should rather take a day bus for security reason.
Nwakama revealed that when they got to Ore, in Ondo State, the driver stopped for the passengers to eat and buy some things. According to him, on approaching Okada town, the bus had a flat tyre.

He said: "The driver stopped to change the tyre. We all alighted from the bus. One nursing mother in the bus refused to come down. While the driver was still arguing with the nursing mother, about 15 armed men swooped on us and ordered everybody, at gunpoint to follow them into the bush. We complied.
"The men ordered that everybody should switch off his or her phones, warning that anybody whose phone rang would be killed."
Nwakama said that the robbers stripped all of them and collected money, handsets, wristwatches and other personal effects. He revealed that what could have led to his untimely death started when one of the hoodlums started caressing his wife.

He said: "The man was touching my wife's breast and my wife was crying and all of a sudden the man started putting his hands in my wife's pant, while others were doing same to the other three girls and a woman with us.
"As I would not stand the humiliation any longer, I warned the armed man to know that the lady is my wife and that it would not be good doing the thing in my presence. My effrontery angered the idiot, who corked his gun and threatened to shoot me. One of them armed with machete, got more infuriated and hit me with a sharp object on my head and I fell.

"At the point of death, I watched the idiots raping my wife in turn. I passed out as I could not stand it any longer."
His wife (name withheld), who is still in shock said: "I don't have anything to say, rather than that the God I serve will fish out those who humiliated me and give them the punishment they deserve."
She revealed that in their community, in Delta State, it is an abomination for a married woman to sleep with a man that is not her husband. "But when we arrived home and our elders deliberated on the issue and finally said that since it was not intentional, I had been forgiven. Yet, we still spent huge amount of money to perform some cleansing rituals."
