AS the controversy over who becomes Governor Adams Oshiomhole
's running mate in the forthcoming 2012 governorship election in Edo State deepens, Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, youths in Edo South senatorial district, yesterday gave reasons why leaders of the party in the state rejected Dr Pius Odubu as running mate to the governor.
They said the issue was beyond former Governor Lucky Igbinedion, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and others who brought Odubu as running mate to Governor Adams Oshiomholein 2007.
They said their grouse was "based on his performance as Deputy Governor in the past three years. So it will be catastrophic to give him the ticket again when he has not given us an account of what he has done for the people in the past three years."
The youths under the aegis of the Edo South ACN Coalitio said: "The truth is that Igbinedion or Ize Iyamu or Capt. Hosa are not the issue. We rejected Odubu because the people at the grassroots said he has not done any thing to justify the support we gave him.
"The issue is none performance. As a matter of fact, we are even blaming those that made him deputy governor in the first place because they should have looked at his record for the eight years he was at the House of Representatives. So those agitating that he must not return are doing so, not because they want the position, but because we have better people that will work with the governor" he stated.
He added that, "as regards to the visit of the Governor and Odubu to the palace, the issue of running mate was not discussed at the palace. Our father the Oba only said the Governor should carry Odubu along and we have found out that it does not mean he should pick him as his running mate. That is the issue."
