Whitney Houston’s Final Film, ‘Sparkle,’ To Be Released In August

Sony Pictures has announced the release date of Whitney Houston's last movie following her tragic death on February 11. The film titled 'Sparkle,' in which Houston co-star with Jordin Sparks, will hit theaters on Aug. 17, 2012.

'Sparkle' is a remake of the 1976 film of the same name, loosely based on the Supremes. Sparks plays the title character, while Houston portrayed her mother. Houston sings a powerhouse gospel number, 'Eyes on the Sparrow,' in the film and collaborates with Sparks on a new R. Kelly song called 'Celebrate' in the end credits.

Executive producer Howard Rosenman told the Hollywood Reporter that the role would have changed Houston's life. "[The role] would have been a big, big comeback, she is so brilliant in it," Rosenman said. "I was just raving about [Whitney's] performance, she was so great in it. I'm just in shock."

Houston's sudden death shocked the world, including those closest to her. Houston's cousin, Dionne Warwick, claimed she "seemed fine" during a phone conversation just before her passing. Houston's body was found in the bathtub of the Beverly Hilton, where she was staying prior to mentor Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party. Houston was 48 years old.

  1. One does not know how great Whitney Houston voice was until you hear others try to sing for songs. The range she had was great. One can hear JH and understand the greatest of WH voice.
