President Jonathan Seeks Israel’s Support To Fight Boko Haram

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday sought the support of the Israeli government in order to fight terrorism occasioned by the activities of the fundamental Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President made the appeal during a meeting with President Shimon Peres of Israel in Jerusalem during his ongoing Christian pilgrimage to the country.

President Jonathan  said, 

“Combating the menace of terrorism is a challenge that we must address in partnership with all peace loving countries and peoples of the world.

As at yesterday evening several dead bodies were still being recovered from bushes, hostels and classes in and around the school.

A witness quoted by Reuters news agency counted 40 bodies at the hospital, mostly those of young men believed to be students.

TRAGIC: Dozens Of Students Killed As Boko Haram Attacks College Of Agriculture, Yobe

Unknown gunmen have launched a vicious attack on the College of Agriculture in Yobe state, killing an unspecified number of students.

Details of the attack are still sketchy but the provost of the college, Mulima Mata, confirmed the incident, which the News Agency of Nigeria said occurred early Sunday morning in the Gujba district of the state.

Reports say the students were shot dead as they slept in their dormitory.

33-Year-Old Nigerian Arraigned In U.S. Court For Aiding Al Qaeda

A Nigerian, Lawal Babafemi, was on Friday arraigned  in a U.S. Federal Court, Brooklyn, on charges of providing material support to al Qaeda and criminal use of firearms.

Babafemi, 33, also known as “Ayatollah Mustapha’’, was arraigned on a four-count charge of indictment, conspiracy, providing material support to AQAP, and use of firearms.

Boko Haram Leader, Shekau Resurfaces In New Video…Claims Responsibility For Benisheik Massacre

A video believed to have been released by the wanted leader of  the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnah Lidda’awati Wal Jihad, also known as Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, surfaced in Maiduguri on Wednesday.

In it, a man claiming to be Shekau, debunked earlier claims by the Nigerian military that he died from gunshot wounds on August 19, 2013.

The  then JTF spokesman in Borno State,   Lt Col Sagir Musa, had in a statement said,

 “Intelligence report available to the JTF  Operation Restore Order revealed that  Shekau, the most dreaded and wanted terrorists’ leader may have died.

“He died of gunshots wounds received in an encounter with the JTF in one of their camps in Sambisa Forest on  June 30 , 2013. Shekau was mortally wounded in the encounter and was sneaked into Amitchide-a border community in Cameroon for treatment from which he never recovered.”

But in the video, Shekau  said the world “should know that he could not die except by the will of Allah.”

The unfinished building where security forces killed at least seven squatters Friday, September 20, in the Apo neighbourhood of Abuja, belongs to Mrs. Adunni Oluwole Salisu, believed to be the sister to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, a PREMIUM TIMES investigation has revealed.

Boko Haram Islamists opened fire earlier today Friday on security operatives conducting an operation near a legislative building in Abuja, sparking a gunfight that injured several people.

Following a tipoff from arrested Boko Haram fighters, security forces headed to a purported weapons cache behind the building in Abuja’s Apo neighbourhood, said Marilyn Ogar, spokeswoman for the Department of State Services.

The Federal Government has ordered immediate deployment of troops to troubled Nasarawa state.

The Director, Army Public Relations Department, Brigadier General Ibrahim Attahiru, said the troops, will join the police to stem the tide of violence in the state.

18 Soldiers Sentenced To Death, Prisons Over Boko Haram Complicity

For their alleged links to Boko Haram, some soldiers are to face death penalty while others will go to jail. Those affected are one lieutenant, one warrant officer and 16 others. The General Court Martial   has been trying them since July 1, this year. 

They were accused of offences ranging from communicating with Boko Haram members, cowardly behaviour, murder, to manslaughter. They were being tried by the Three Armoured Division as the case fell within its Area of Responsibility (AOR).

  A military source said that those soldiers who were sentenced to death actually deserved the sentence because “for serving soldiers who swore to defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria and Nigerians therein to be found conniving with the enemies of Nigeria (Boko Haram) is a treasonable offence which attracts capital punishment.

Nasir Isiaku, 27,  was speaking to a gathering of Christians recently of his activities as a member of the terror group, Boko Haram. He also told of how he renounced what he called “the cult” where he drank his victims’ blood so their ghosts would not appear to him in dreams.

“I joined the Bafarawa Arabic Islamic Centre in 2010 and they were teaching us Arabic language. Every year, we take about 20 people to Iran for special training because our zonal headquarters is in Iran. Our own group is called Shitte but we have the same agenda with the Boko Haram sect. You people have only been hearing of Boko Haram, but there are other deadly Islamic groups that are also part of Boko Haram sect. I can count up to six of them that I’m very much aware of.

The Nigerian military yesterday banned the use of Thuraya phones and their recharge cards in Borno State, hotbed of Boko Haram militancy in a move described as an anti-terrorist measure.

A statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, the JTF’s spokesman in Maiduguri, stated: 

“The attention of the JTF has been drawn to the use of Thuraya phones by Boko Haram terrorists to coordinate their recent assassination of civilians especially students and some Imams.” 

Female Police DPO And Her 7-Year-Old Son Shot Dead In Kano

A female Police DPO identified as Esther Tarimo and her 7-year-old son were shot dead at Daurawa, Maiduguri Road in the ancient city.

The police officer was killed at about 7.30am on Tuesday as she was going to drop her son off in school. It was also gathered that her husband is a retired Police officer.

The gunmen reportedly rode in a tricycle popularly called ‘Keke NAPEP’.

The police have since sealed off the area.

There are indications that terrorist groups, Boko Haram and Ansaru, are being funded by drug cartels in Latin America, a report has revealed.

The report entitled, "Terrorism in Northern Africa and the Sahel in 2012: Global Reach and Implications," is an update on five earlier studies.

Published by the Director, Inter-University Centre for Terrorism Studies, USA, Yonah Alexander, in February 2013, the report suggested that Al-Qaida in Islamic Maghreb, had aligned with many other groups in order to expand its sources of funding.
