El-Rufai Vows To Keep Talking!

FORMER Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, was defiant yesterday after his release, insisting that he will not stop talking.

He was arrested, Saturday evening and released  by men of the Directorate of State Security, SSS, Saturday, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, but released about 16 hours later talked tough, yesterday, saying his ordeal will not stop him from criticising the government.

El-Rufai who recounted his ordeals in the hands of security agents said he will not stop speaking on what is wrong when the need arises.

El-Rufai

He said he has just started his critical assessment of President Goodluck Jonathan's administration adding that he was not in any way inciting the people through his writings.

The former Minister who was arrested at the Abuja airport on arrival from London aboard a British Airways flight, told Vanguard yesterday that he was left to go home by the SSS at 9.00 am yesterday. He has, however, been instructed to report to the Directorate today.

Vanguard was told that Mallam el-Rufai was specifically asked why he chose to publish budget figures that were in all material details wrong.

In addition, Vanguard learnt that Rufai was remindedthat "he had been known to make some statements that were considered inflamatory in the past but had almost always been ignored."

A source told Vanguard: "This time he was told in very clear and specific terms that the figures he gave out in his article were not only wrong but were intended to bring the Federal Government of Nigeria and, indeed, the intelligence community to disrepute by causing both disaffection in the estimation of members of the public.

Intelligence community

"The published figure for the intelligence community as published by Mallam el-Rufai was N208billion. He was asked why he did it".

Mallam el-Rufai, in his response was said to have told security agents that he had been out of the country and was yet to get the complete volume of the budget.

Vanguard further understood that Rufai was informed that he could have got the complete volumes of the budget from the National Assembly, Supreme Court, Federal Ministry of Finance; and The Presidency.

He was then given a breakdown of the  figures as appropriated by the National Assembly on May 25, 2011, and signed into law by President Goodluck Jonathan on May 26 – Vanguard published the breakdown yesterday.

Vanguard was informed that Mallam Rufai was given the breakdown as follows: "the Intelligence Community got a total allocation of N109,855,099,466 (approximated to N109.855bilion) which when split was as follows:  the Office of the National Security Adviser – N40,846,937,023; Directorate of State Security (that is the SSS) -  N23,452,705,993; National Intelligence Agency -  N27,720,580,338; and the Presidential Air Fleet –N17,834,876,113".

Speaking with Vanguard yesterday, El-Rufai who condemned the arrest, stressed that as a Nigerian, he has the fundamental right of freedom of speech in line with the country's constitution.

Asked what happened at the SSS office, he said: "The SSS told me that what I have been writing and saying of late have been very critical about the government and were capable of inciting Nigerians and the public against the government.

I then told them that what they said was an opinion and if it is true that I was inciting the people, the government should go to court.

"When we get to court, the government can then raise the issues and they are all there to be interpreted, then we can interprete the laws.  I am a Nigerian, the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria provides for freedom of speech."

Meanwhile, Vanguard has learnt that based on pressures and calls for compassion, there is a very remotepossibility that he would face any form of trial for the alleged mis-information which he was said to have caused to publish.
Security sources disclosed to Vanguard that the interrogation process for Rufai was not particularly long.

His media adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, had in a statement, Saturday, said that Mallam El Rufai was arrested because of his revelation that the National Security Adviser (NSA) was allocated N208 billion in the 2011 budget.

Bakare condemns
El-Rufai's arrestVice presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, in the last presidential elections, Pastor Tunde Bakare, yesterday, condemned the arrest of former Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-rufai, describing it as a ploy to repress the truth about state of the nation.

Briefing newsmen  in Lagos, Bakare argued that the arrest of El-Rufai on the account of the article he wrote on the back page of a newspaper was unjust.

Bakare said: "El-Rufai was arrested 5 am by the State Security Service, SSS, and was released at 11pm. That arrest was an affront on his freedom of expression, because he was arrested on the account of what he wrote on his column. That act is unjust and an act of intimidation."

He further noted that the arrest of former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, was a ploy to whittle down the truth about the state of the nation.

"I went through the publication and what El-Rufai wrote was about the state of the nation. He wrote that an interesting observation is the fact that the government said the problem of power shortage is a priority, yet the Ministry of Power got N91billion as total appropriation in 2011 while the National Security Adviser(NSA) controls and will spend N208billion(recurrent_N51billion, capital_N59billion, and another N98billion for the amnesty programme," Bakare argued.

Still quoting El-Rufai's article, the clergyman said, "this amount does not include the Defence budget. The Defence Ministry will get N348billion, while the Police will get N309billion.

In other words, though Nigerians have never felt so insecure in recent history, the NSA, Police, and Defence will spend a combined N865billion_more than N2billion a day, weekends included! This does not include the 36 states' so-called security vote."

Speaking further, he asserted that "as a law abiding citizen, Mallam El-Rufai has the right to express his views about what is going on in the country. This was why he wrote his article about certain figures on the back page of Thisday."
It will be recalled that the former Minister was arrested yesterday morning by the  State Security Service (SSS)  operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja,   but was released late last night.

Akolade Arowolo Used 2 Knives & A Hammer To Kill His Banker Wife Titilayo!

There are more shocking update on the breaking news we shared about "The Man Who Cuts Wife Into Pieces After Stabbing Her To Death" Last Week. Click Here To Read Previous News Report: http://urlred.com/3emyp

Akolade Arowolo, the man, who allegedly stabbed his 29-year-old banker wife, Titilayo, to death on June 24, 2011, may have used two knives and a hammer to carry out the dastardly act.

Titilayo's family lawyer, Mr. Nelson Ekoh, who made the claim, told PUNCH METRO, that the deceased was stabbed more than 20 times in the head and face. Ekeh added that the killing had a ritual undertone as one of Titilayo's internal organs was found at the scene of the crime.

The lawyer, who is also the spokesman for the family of the late banker, described the murder as a crime carried out by a depraved mind.

He said, "Although we cannot say what transpired between the couple exactly, I suspect that Akolade wanted to use Titilayo for a ritual purpose. At their home at 8, Dr. Akindehinde Street, Isolo, Lagos, an internal organ was found on the floor, her eyes almost gouged out and there are so many stab wounds on her body. There are about 20 stab wounds in her head and face alone while there are several other stab wounds on other parts of her body.

"Akolade used two knives and a hammer to kill Titilayo. One knife broke in her neck, while the other one was left near her corpse. I believe he pinned her down to the floor and stabbed her to death after which he took out some of her internal organs."

Meanwhile, the murder of the banker has continued to puzzle family, friends and members of the public.

Our correspondent, who visited the Ifako home of the deceased's family on Saturday, observed that sympathisers came in droves to visit and pay condolence to Titilayo's family.

The slain banker's father, Mr. George Oyakhire, who is a senior employee of the Nigerian Customs Service, has left his duty post in Kano upon hearing the murder of his daughter. He, however, declined comment but directed our correspondent to the family's spokesman.

PUNCH METRO gathered that the family was yet to make funeral arrangements as the autopsy report had not yet been released.

A close relative of Titilayo, who craved anonymity, told PUNCH METRO that Titilayo had a bright future ahead of her but regretted that with her murder, the family would never be the same again.

She said, "Titilayo graduated from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, with a good grade in History and International Relations around 2006. She just turned 29 on April 19 and her life was on the track.

"Thankfully, on the day she was murdered, her daughter was here with us and she will remain here with us. We will continue to take care of her."

When asked if the family was aware of any domestic abuse, the relative said on many occasions, Titilayo had come to report to them that Akolade was abusing her and just a few weeks ago, they helped them to settle a fight.

"Some weeks ago, after he had beaten her, Titilayo came to our house and my father warned her not to go back. But after Akolade's family came to plead on his behalf, she went back to him, against our father's advice," she said.

PUNCH METRO gathered that although Akolade had been arrested by the police, the family was dissatisfied with the manner in which the Aswani Police Station handled the case.

Ekoh, who doubles as the family's lawyer and spokesman, faulted the preliminary investigation by the police.

He said, "I'm very happy with the manner in which the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, Panti, is handling the case. However, the Aswani Police Station did a poor job.

"The murder occurred between 12noon and 1pm. Akolade was said to have been driving against traffic when the traffic officials on duty stopped him. He alighted from his car and attempted to run but was knocked down by a vehicle.

"The officers on duty then radioed the police station when he suddenly got up, flagged down a bike and fled the scene, leaving his car. However this cannot be correct because when I saw the suspect days later, he did not look like someone that had been hit by a car.

"When I visited the police station on Sunday evening, I was prevented from taking pictures of the car but the officers on duty told me that Akolade was still at large. On Monday, I was told that he had been arrested and taken to Panti.

"On Tuesday morning, we went to the crime scene where we took photographs. At the scene, we saw an internal organ on the floor. From there we went to the police station to inspect the car which is a blue Honda Accord 2001 model with registration number, Lagos RK129-KJA

"On inspecting the car, we observed blood smear on the dash board, steering wheel, driver's arm rest, passenger seat, and a blood-soaked N100 note, as well as a Bible.

"When I asked the IPO, Mr. Cletus, how the car was retrieved and if there was a report on how the car was recovered, he and his colleagues said we should not bother about the investigation since Akolade had been arrested.

"I then told them that their testimonies would be needed in order to strengthen the prosecution's case, only for them to now change their initial statement that the car was abandoned somewhere and a radio message came in.

"Also, the report of Akolade's arrest is flawed. Akolade was not arrested at home because the neighbours and even the security guard claimed not to have seen him since the incident occurred. This is another question the police need to answer."

In a petition addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr. Yakubu Alkali, titled "Material concealment in the whereabouts of a murder suspect immediately the act was committed," dated June 28, 2011; the family demanded an immediate seizure of the entry evidencing recovery of the Akolade's car from the IPO.

They also demanded information surrounding the recovery of the suspect's car with the aim of ascertaining the role played by the traffic officers who allowed Akolade to escape on a bike after being hit by an oncoming vehicle; and the whereabouts of Akolade between the period of 1pm on Friday, June 24, 2011 till Monday, June 27, 2011 when he was arrested.

Ekoh added that it was imperative that the police provided adequate information as neighbours of the deceased were reluctant to testify in court.

HIV/AIDS AIDS SCAM:How 7 NGOs Took Nigeria For A Ride...Says ICPC

According to a latest report by the World Health Organisation, WHO, HIV/AIDs, malaria and tuberculosis are the most significant public health problems in Nigeria today!

Whereas Nigeria was ranked 5th among the 22 high TB-burden countries that collectively bear 80 per cent of the global burden of TB, WHO, in a report it issued early this month, maintained that "the economic cost of malaria, arising from cost of treatment, loss of productivity and earning due to days lost from illness, may be as high as 1.3 per cent of economic growth per annum", adding that "the disease is a major cause of maternal mortality and poor-child development," in the country.

Going further with a breakdown on the rampaging scourge of the diseases in Africa, the health body disclosed that "the number of TB cases notified in the country increased from 31,264 in 2002 to 90,307 in 2008, more than 450,000", noting that "the TB burden in Nigeria is further compounded by the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic and the emergence of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).

Moreso, it is undisputed that the prevalence rate of HIV/AIDs in the country is so high, warranting pundits to call for a declaration of a state of emergence on the issue.

It is, however, worrisome that despite these creepy facts on the health condition of the country, funds made available by the international community to fight the menace of these dreaded diseases reportedly found their way into illegal private pockets.

This fact came to light week Monday, following an alarm that was raised by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, which said it had concluded plans to probe seven non-governmental organisations, NGOs, over allegations that they diverted millions of dollars earmarked to fight Aids, tuberculosis and malaria in Nigeria.

The anti-graft agency stressed that the probe became imperative sequel to a pronouncement by an international financing institution that invests the world's money to save lives under the global fund initiative.

ICPC said it was concerned over threat by the international 'good Samaritans' to terminate its funding to organisations in Nigeria owing to the massive fraud.

Specifically, it was the Office of the Inspector-General of Global Funds to Nigeria that called the attention of the commission to this alleged fraud.

The donor-body insisted that it discovered the heinous fraud in a recent audit of 15 grants amounting to US$474,519,260, which it said was disbursed between 2003 and 2009, for the purpose of saving lives in the country.

Meantime,  ICPC, upon receiving the complaint, vowed to use the said audit report to confirm the veracity of the allegations with a view to bringing all the erring officials of the NGOs to book.

In a  statement issued by the Head, Public Enlightenment Department of ICPC, Mr Mike Sowe, in Abuja last week, the agency named the seven organisations fingered in the alleged fraud, and gave a breakdown of how the said monies were allegedly utilized illegally.

The anti-graft body alleged that, "The funds were disbursed to the following beneficiaries in Nigeria; the Yakubu Gowon Centre for International Co-operation, the National Action Committee on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NACA), the Society for Family Health (SFH), the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP), the Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH), the Christian Health Association of Nigeria (CHAN) and the CHAN-MEDIPHARM (MEDIPHARM)."

In its breakdown, the commission alleged that "the Yakubu Gowon Centre for International Cooperation illegally transferred funds outside the country amounting to $15.5 million, incurred extra-budgetary expenditures of $5.2m, and had undocumented expenditures amounting to $3m. The unretired expenditures of the centre for the period under review amounted to $1.2m while the management fee not accounted for was $659,000.

"The National Action Committee on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria incurred extra-budgetary expenditures of  $71,000 in addition to $679,000 as unretired expenditures; while the Society for Family Health had 861.000 admin charges not accounted for and $68,000  unretired expenditures

"The National Malaria Control Program had $711.000 unretired staff advances and $10,000 underfunded balance of rent grant. The audit report also indicated a lack of transparency in the programme's procurement management process which resulted in price inflation. The report pointed out that some suppliers could not be located at their given addresses.

"The Association for Reproductive and Family Health could not account for $335,000 listed as admin charges while its unretired expenditures amounted to $168,000.

"The audit report further indicated that the Christian Health Association of Nigeria illegally transferred foreign currency amounting to $11.6m to non-programme-related account abroad and later refunded the money in local currency. The association was also accused of having a weak procurement and logistic management resulting in inflation of prices.

"The report further accused the CHAN MEDIPHARM, of over-charging on distribution of products to the tune of $256,000; with $77,000  as unexpended amount on training.

Consequently, ICPC maintained that in view of the potential damage the audit report poses to the reputation and image of Nigeria, as well as the danger these organisations through their alleged unwholesome practices are subjecting millions of Nigerians suffering from HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, that it would use all available legal instruments to bring the culprits to book, adding that it would equally conduct a system study and review to forestall a recurrence of this kind of  embarrassment to the country.

Though the innocence of the accused organisations will remain intact pending when the authenticity of the allegations are proved, the onus is, however, on ICPC to match its words with action.

Bible Dropped From Heaven On Rain-Soaked Yams… Bible Not Wet!!!

Is it a myth?
Where is the Bible?
Did the British missionary steal it?
Did he keep it in his home church before he died?
Can it be retrieved from Britain?

ON January 1, 1914, the British  government, in a deft political manoeuvre,  proclaimed the amalgamation of the then Northern and Southern Protectorates and changed the political destiny of the geographical entity known today  as Nigeria.

Eight months after that event, in the summer of the same year, another milestone event took place in the fresh water rain agrarian forest within the flood plains of the River Niger, some six kilometres north west of the confluence of the Ase and Niger rivers, that would alter the spiritual landscape of the country forever.

An unlettered aging woman, Mrs. Ofuonwaikie Esievo, with fellow farmers, was in a hurry to ferry her farm yield, mainly yams, across the Aya  lake just before the pending floods when, like the biblical story of the Virgin conception, she became the bearer of a tale that would  remain indelible in the history of the country.

The woman, who has  since died unsung, had the onerous responsibility of carrying a Holy Bible that was said to have fallen from the fading sky blue heaven. That was in August of 1914 and the place was Araya in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State. That, in a nutshell, is the  bizzare story of the Fallen Bible which has put the sleepy hometown of the former  managing  director of the Guinness Nigeria Plc, Dr. Abel Ubeku, in the world map.

Questions! Questions!! Questions!!! Fallen Bible? A swampy rain forest dominated by water spirits? Across the Christian world, it is not  uncommon to see historical monuments depicting the entry of the missionaries into such places.

Apart from several camps known as Ori Okes (Mountaintops) reserved for spiritual retreats and solemn prayers in different parts of the western parts of the country which were mostly used by early Christian leaders like Apostle Babalola, it is difficult to point to any monument marking the spread of the Christian faith in other parts. Aya was reputed to be dominated by visible water spirits such that  Okolobe hillock and the Ihwerhe spirits were  numerous  they tormented  people in the day time and much more at night time.

The Bible on yams in Araya.

The Ohwolo spirits were so evidently evil, being insatiable killers, and during floods they  were known to help, hinder, misdirect, attack, strike people dumb and sometimes with insanity. They held fishermen captives for days and often made their fishing wooden canoes to capsize.

In addition, there were community shrines including Oriorie, the marital harmony juju, and Osako, the annual town-cleansing juju. But the greatest of the shrines  worshipped by the people was the Aya cult. It was therefore perplexing to accept the fact that a Holy Bible could descend from Heaven and land in a predominantly pagan village founded by a diviner known simply as Aya, who, like biblical Jacob, did everything humanly possible to outwit his brethren in order to dominate the fabulous fishing grounds he just discovered a little under six kilometres from Aviara, his birth place. For the avoidance of doubt, Aya is still regarded as the brain behind the Aya  cult.

The intriguing story of the Araya Bible Site is that before 1911, there were no reports of any Christian activity in any of the Isoko towns. It was Reverend J.D. Atkins and his counterpart, Reverend H. Proctor, who took the first known  gospel of Christ to Oleh, the headquarters of Isoko land and thereafter to other parts of the land.

History records that the twosome urged the Church Missionary Society, CMS, to take steps to open up the Isoko axis through missionary work and that effort paid off and, by July 1914, Aitken had established a missionary district in Oleh   with him as the initial pastor in charge. One of the first fruits of that endeavor was Mr. Isara Ewhoboh of Araya, who though was a stack illiterate bought an English Bible which they put under their pillows. This reporter was told that whenever  Aitken visited Araya then, he stayed in the house of Mr. Ewhoboh where a room was reserved for him perpetually.

Ewhoboh, who later became an inveterate soul winner and several new converts to the Christian faith, received revelations, just before the rainy season of 1914, to expect a wonderful blessing/miracle from God to Araya but the form of the miracle/blessing was not disclosed.  In those days, farmers moved their harvests by head from their farms to the creek which linked lake Aya to the Ekregbesi  creek, which emptied into the Ase River and the River Niger.

It was at such period in 1914 when Mrs. Esievo and other women were hurrying up to ferry their yield  when suddenly the woman discovered a large Bible and a supposedly  letter on the tubers of yams spread on the sandy beach. The yams and everything else were soaked and dripping with water but the open Bible and the accompanying letter were dry.

Wonders? The illiterate women, who were pagans, shouted and hollered just in case anybody had forgotten the book in a rainy forest and, when nobody showed up, they decided to protect the mysterious find as best as they could and carried it home along with their yams. Back home, Mrs. Esievo, still dripping  wet, hurriedly, in fear, perhaps, took the Bible to the only known Christian convert in the community,  Ewhoboh, to find out if he was the owner of the Bible; but no.

The mystery continued and unfortunately at the time, Aitken, a friend of  Ewhoboh and the only man perceived to be in the position to  unravel the mystery of a ‘Fallen Bible’ was on vacation in Europe. That left the bewildered community with no choice, after a protracted debate over what to do, than to take the mysterious Holy Bible to Patani where Rev. Henry Proctor was in charge.

They therefore dispatched a delegation made up of  Ewhoboh, Mr. Esievo whose wife found the Bible, one of his cousins, Mr. Emeriovo, and two other new converts, Messrs Akanabia and Ekriama, to visit Patani with the strange find. On getting to Patani, only Ewhoboh was allowed to climb up to see  Proctor while the  rest of the delegation waited downstairs. When Ewhoboh   eventually returned, told the other members of  the delegation that the white man asked the team to return in another forthnight for a solution to the nagging question.

Not satisfied, the others asked  Ewhoboh to go back to the white man to get the Bible, arguing that if he wanted them to return in two weeks, they must go back with the Bible and come with it on their second voyage. Valid argument! But the Oyibo will not have any of that effrontery and ordered the locals to get out of his home or be shown the way out; so they returned dejected. The delegation returned two weeks later to Patani only to be told that  Proctor had proceeded on his own vacation to Britain. It was later learnt that the reverend could not make it to Britain as he  reportedly  died during the voyage. Efforts by the locals, especially, Ewhoboh, to get Aitken to intervene proved abortive because,  Sunday Vanguard gathered that, Proctor was superior to Aitken and therefore had no moral authority to question what his boss had done in his absence.

One remarkable feature as Sunday Vanguard reporter waltzed through relatively good roads in the heart of Isoko land  was the fact that the people  may have embraced the Christian faith totally and their commitment is unshakeable. From Oleh to Irri (you cannot forget Irri in a hurry; it was a theatre of sectarian war too long ago), to Aviara where there is a bold signpost welcoming the visitor to: “The Holy Land” (Ewho Oreri) and then on to Araya, the host community of the Bible Site, as  you turn at Aviara to Araya, one finds a signpost directing a first timer to a town called Bethel. If you wonder why Bethel in an Isoko community, we will feed you with the mystery surrounding that name some other time. Not  far away is another town called Uzere which has also played significant role in the expansion of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Some distance  from the third signpost directing strangers to the Araya Bible Site, the reporter was advised to disembark from  a  motorcycle carrying him  and do the remaining kilometer or so, on a  marshy clay surface with outgrowths on both sides of the narrow foot path. There were women and men along the way who easily recognized the reporter and his tour guide, Mr. Solomon Umukoro, as visitors and offered their courtesies.

While the reporter, who had no premonition that he was going to be sailing on the Aya  lake in a small earthen canoe leaking profusely from two points, was sympathizing with the female farmers with heavy cassava sacks on their heads and their backs.  Lesson number one: You don’t wear shoes sailing in lake with so much negative reputation. Lesson two: You don’t wear a jacket for voyages on water. Lesson three: All forms of electronic gadgets like laptops are better kept in a safe place far removed from the harbor. Lesson  four: If you are lily-livered or scared, don’t let your guide and the small boy paddling the canoe to know that you cannot swim.

Except you are made of stone, your heart, like mine, would be in your mouth as the canoe meandered mysteriously through heavy seaweed from the lake and on to the tiny tributary leading to the River Niger, especially if that canoe was ‘captained’ by a very courageous 18-year old Sunday Itimi, an SSC II student of the only secondary School in Araya, the Adam Memorial Secondary School.

He does similar trips on a regular basis to help pay his way through school and therefore he is not afraid to go again and, besides, the lake is now regarded by the locals as a Holy Lake that cannot be harmful to, wait for it, indigenes. Everything about the trip was out of the world; right from the harbor where the lake water is cold to the fast running tributary warm water and the entry point to the Bible Site where a female farmer was taking her bath in the open after a hard day at her farm up to the sandy site where all one hears is the sound of wood peckers and other birds. If you are familiar with village setting, you might perceive the presence of fishes in the very murky waters.

The voyage took about 45 minutes that looked like eternity, but eventually we arrived at the Bible Site, the only thing of public interest in Araya. Araya, by the way, a small fishing village with a population of about 6,000 (1991 Census), is one of the four quarters belonging to the Aviara  clan namely: Araya, Ezietuhro, Iyebiou and Ohrode. At the site stands a small white cathedral with about 31 pew capable of accommodating about 120 worshippers.

The monument, cordoned off by two lines of chains, stands in the very spot where the Bible was said to have dropped from  heaven some 97 years ago. The monument stands about seven feet above the ground carrying a pulpit upraised in the form of an altar. Three objects stand on top of the altar; a cross, an open book depicting the Fallen Holy Bible standing atop 12 tubers of yam. At the middle of the altar  is written: ‘The Miracle of the Araya Holy Bible August 1914’.

On the wall of the cathedral is a tablet containing the 14 dos and the don’ts for every pilgrim to the site. They include that there should be no form  of trading or any form of business while at the site; no cooking or any form of  fire; no wearing of ornaments in the form  of consecration; no entry into the monument proper; no crusade; must be tidy; and above all only three days can be spent in the place and pilgrims must maintain absolute quietness.

There is light in Araya, but the only semblance of light at the Bible Site is a blue kerosene lantern standing at the corner of the monument. At the back of the small cathedral is a small house apparently, for conveniences. The place itself is surrounded by not too large trees at the confluence of the Aya  lake and the fast running waters that empty into the Ase River which in turn flows into the River Niger. For the almost 39 minutes Sunday Vanguard spent on the sandy soil of the Bible Site, no creature of any kind was sighted beyond the birds that occasionally flapped  their wings and reminded one of their unperturbed presence by their sonorous songs perhaps to attract preys.

Inside the cathedral  is every paraphernalia of a church complete with two altars, a wooden box at the centre with two holes—one for vows and the other  for offerings. Further down the altar is another simple table for ministers. There  are no public address systems neither  are musical instruments even though there is a choir stand  at a  corner of the church building. It is, however, worthy of note that Isoko Christians can make rancorous, wonderful and melodious music with their hand claps only (Abo Abo).

In an address during the unveiling of the monument in 1988,  the late Mr. Osima had called on the authorities to do everything within their powers to bring back the Holy Bible. “This little story will one day pose a lot of challenges to Christians and scholars and this means different things to different people, depending on how they look at it and their faith. If the Bible is still around as I strongly believe, it will one day come back to  Araya. All that is left for us is to praise and glorify God’s name, in Araya”. According to a statement by Osima, there had been all manner of miracles during the construction of the monument.

A patron of the community and one time  managing director of Guinness Nigeria Plc, Dr. Abel Ubeku, who actually did the unveiling of the monument, said: “After the prayers were said, I proceeded to unveil the monument. As soon as I finished removing the cloth that covered the monument, a whirlwind suddenly started at the base of the monument. As the crowd stared in amazement, it moved slowly over the arena, then gently across the Ara  lake and over the village of Araya.

Those who were in the village at the time described the breeze of the whirlwind as ‘cool and soothing’. While a whirlwind is a natural phenomenon, the way it started that day, its movement and impact on those present at the ceremony clearly showed that this was a whirlwind with a difference. Was it a sign?”

To speak on the mystery surrounding the said Fallen Bible, we decided to return to Araya the following day to parley with the curator of the Bible Site and the presiding pastor of National Apostolic Church, Araya, which is situated at the gateway to the site, Pastor Lawson Odeh Eghagha, 62, who was given the mandate a few months ago to oversee to the place, not just because he hailed from community, but essentially because he had received a divine revelation on how best to put the place to use in 1986 and he articulated his revelation to the community in writing.

Kim Kardashian And Kris Humphries In Bible Study!

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are spending their free time in a surprising new way -- they're studying the bible ... but like all things these days, it has to do with their upcoming nuptials.

Sources close to the couple said they've been going over their favourite passages in hopes of picking a few to be engraved on their wedding bands. We're told Kim will pick a passage for Kris' ring, and Kris will pick one to be engraved on Kim's.

According to our sources ... they are each taking it very seriously and they both want to pick something "with meaning."

As we previously reported, Kim already has a bible verse engraved into her massive engagement ring.

Can we get an amen?

Want To Loose Weight? Try Mangos!

Move Over Weight Watchers, an exotic super fruit called 'African Mango' is quickly becoming America's hottest new way to lose weight.

And much to the chagrin of the nation's $40 billion-dollar diet industry, which sells outrageously expensive surgical procedures and drugs that have done little, if anything, to trim America's ever-growing collective waistline.

Indeed, interest in the use of African Mango extract (irvingia gabonensis) as a safe, effective and inexpensive weight loss alternative surged after Dr. Mehmet Oz called it, mentioning no specific brand, a "breakthrough supplement" and a "miracle in your medicine cabinet" on his Emmy Award-winning The Dr. Oz Show, which aired on September 13, 2010.

Similarly, the show's leading medical contributor, Dr. Tanya Edwards, M.D., called African Mango extract a "miracle pill" after it helped her lose 7 pounds in less than a month without making any changes to her diet or exercise routine. Click here to read her report.

Subjects Lost an Astonishing 3,990% More Weight

According to a recent study published in the scientific journal Lipids in Health and Disease, men and women supplementing with African Mango extract for just 28 lost an astonishing 3,990% more weight than those taking a placebo (8.9 lbs vs. 0.22 lbs).

Beyond the weight loss, the volunteers taking African Mango extract 30 minutes before meals lost a stunning average of 2.4 inches from their waistlines as well as 1.8 inches from their hips — and their bad LDL cholesterol, triglyceride, and glucose levels all plummeted.

What Is African Mango, and How Does It Work?

Despite the recent frenzy surrounding African Mango and its ability to cause safe weight loss, the fruit has actually been used as a diet aid for centuries in Cameroon, Africa.

The brightly-colored tropical fruit is native to Cameroon's west-coastal rainforests. African Mango, or Bush Mango, differs from other mango fruits in that it produces a peculiar seed, which natives of Cameroon refer to as Dikka nuts.

For hundreds of years, an extract from the seeds called irvingia gabonensis has been used among Cameroon villagers for its wide-ranging medicinal benefits, which range from reducing and preventing obesity to lowering cholestrol to regulating blood sugar to treating infections.

Americans Swear by African Mango's Slimming Benefits

Erin Bates, a 34-year-old mother of two from Longmont, Colorado, says she lost nearly 30 pounds in 4 weeks as a result of using African Mango extract before meals.

"I didn't even know about African Mango until hearing about it on the news" says Bates. "It had been almost a year since I gave birth to my son, and I was still 30 pounds overweight. I figured if so many other people were seeing success using African Mango, it would be worth trying."

Bates says she began to lose weight almost immediately. "After the first week, I had lost 11 pounds — I thought something was wrong with my scale," says Bates with a laugh. "The pounds were falling off so fast that I actually got excited to step on the scale each morning to see how much more I'd lost."

According to Bates, African Mango is the most effective weight-loss product she's ever used. "I've tried other things like Alli, but I didn't really notice a difference. The change I'm seeing with African Mango is shocking. It's like liposuction in a bottle," says Bates with a laugh.

David Jeffery, a 36-year-old journalist from Columbia, Missouri, says he's experienced similar weight-loss success with African Mango.

"After just two weeks of using African Mango, I lost 22 pounds of fat, including a lot of fat off my gut," says Kennedy. "I'm amazed at how fast the weight is falling off me. Already my jean size has dropped from 36 to 34."

Beware of Low-Quality African Mango from China

With the recent publicity and fanfare surrounding African Mango, it's no surprise that sites are popping up all over the Internet claiming to offer African Mango at bargain-basement prices.

However, according to a recent report published by Consumer Laboratories, Inc., an independent testing organization that reviews health and wellness supplements, a lot of these products, which are often imported from China, have less African Mango than indicated by their labels and have other ingredients and artificial fillers.

July 3, 2011 Update: How To Find a Quality African Mango Product

With dozens, if not hundreds, of African Mango products being sold online, selecting one that's worth your money can be a difficult and confusing endeavor.

According to consumer and Better Business ratings, the 100% Pure African Mango product is considered one of the most effective and trustworthy, with laboratory tests certifying the product's potency and quality.

The website offers a 100% risk-free trial of the product, with each serving working out to be just 62 cents — less than what you'd spend on a small sugary softdrink at McDonald's.

What's more, each an every order of Pure African Mango is a one-time-only transaction. In other words, there are absolutely no reoccurring charges or hidden offers.

Details Of Why And How El-Rufai Was Arrested!

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, who was arrested yesterday mornng by  the  State Security Service (SSS)  operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja,  was released late last night.

"They accosted me on my return to the country, took my phone,  interrogated me, and held me incommunicado for many hours. You can speak to me now because I am back in my house," he told our correspondent early this morning in Abuja.

He declined to speak further on his release. But there are indications that he may be arraigned on Monday for alleged sedition.

The ex-Minister had travelled to the United Kingdom with the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) and running mate, Pastor Tunde Bakare, for a symposium at Chatham House in London on the last general elections.
El-Rufai was reportedly arrested in the presence of his wife, Hajiya Hadiza, and a friend who came to welcome him.

At the SSS headquarters he was interrogated by a senior official.

Former Head of State and presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari,  condemned the arrest, describing it as a brazen act of intimidation, harassment and flagrant violation of citizen's rights in a democratic atmosphere.

According to him, the arrest signified that "there are more people in our country who know how to win by hook and crook than those who know how to make proper use of their 'victory'".
However, a source close to the intelligence community told The Nation on Sunday that the former minister was arrested for writing inciting articles in the media.

According to the source, "The ex-Minister may have a case to answer for allegedly inciting the military against the government. Both at Chatham House and in his column on (This Day newspapers) Friday, el-Rufai allegedly tried to mislead readers with false figures by claiming that the National Security Adviser, Gen. Andrew Azazi will control and spend N208billion this year to manage the nation's security.

"He also said that the NSA, the Police and Defence will spend combined votes of N865billion."
The said offensive aspect in el-Rufai's column reads in part:  "An interesting observation is the fact that the government said the problem of power shortage is a priority, yet the Ministry of Power got N91billion as total appropriation in 2011 while the National Security Adviser(NSA) controls and will spend N208billion(recurrent-N51billion, capital-N59billion, and another N98billion for the amnesty programme!)

"This amount does not include the Defence budget. The Defence Ministry will get N348billion, while the Police will get N309billion.  In other words, though Nigerians have never felt so insecure in recent history, the NSA, Police, and Defence will spend a combined N865billion-more than N2billion a day, weekends included! This does not include the 36 states' so-called security votes."

The reliable source in the SSS, who spoke in confidence, said: "We picked him up because he wrote lies. In the Appropriation (Amendment) Bill 2011 passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives on May 25 and signed into law by President Goodluck Jonathan on May 26, 2011, the Intelligence Community got a total allocation of N109,855,099,466 (approximated to N109.855bilion) which splits as follows: the Office of the National Security Adviser – N40,846,937,023; Directorate of State Security (that is the SSS) – N23,452,705,993; National Intelligence Agency – N27,720,580,338; and the Presidential Air Fleet –N17,834,876,113. "So where did el-Rufai get his N208billion? Even then, all the funds due to Intelligence Community are controlled by the Permanent Secretary (Social Services) in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

"When did Amnesty Programme become part of Intelligence Community whose votes are being managed by the National Security Adviser?  It is very wrong and inciting to manufacture figures and present them as truth because you lost out somewhere and suddenly realised you should become relevant by writing a column in a newspaper. He is certainly appearing in court on Monday."

A formal statement by the SSS by its Assistant Director, Public Relations, Marilyn Ogar, confirmed that el-Rufai was arrested over inciting articles.  The statement said: "At 0500 hours of 2nd July, 2011, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was intercepted on arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

"This became necessary following Mallam el-Rufai's recent articles in the cyber and print media which have been considered by well-meaning Nigerians to be inciting, inflammatory and grossly misleading. For instance, his column on the back page of This Day newspaper of July 1, 2011, titled "What Nigeria Pays FG" clearly attests to this.

"It is pertinent to note that the Freedom of Information Bill (FOI BILL) has been passed into law, yet he refused to cross check his facts before publishing. He rather chose to misinform the public with mischievously orchestrated data with the intent of causing disaffection among the populace thereby subverting Government.

"It is expected that the former minister should have been more circumspect against the backdrop of current security challenges in the country. Nigeria belongs to all of us and no one should take laws into their hands as no one is above the law."

But in a statement, the media consultant to the former minister, Mr. Muyiwa Adekeye, said the SSS had made el-Rufai incommunicado. In the statement he said: "Mallam Nasir el- Rufai was this morning arrested at Abuja airport as he arrived from London aboard a British Airways flight.  SSS operatives later whisked him to their headquarters where he was hauled before their Director-General.

"All efforts to establish contacts with him have since proved abortive and the SSS has given no word to his family and lawyers who have kept vigil."

On the fact that the former minister's arrest might be due to his newspaper column, Mr. Adekeye said, "This figure is in the 2011 Appropriation Act which is a public document. Bringing information in the public domain to the people  cannot by any stretch of the imagination be a crime even if it embarrasses security chiefs who, on the evidence of insecurity in the land, are not delivering value despite securing tidy budgetary allocations! If the facts in el-Rufai's article, 'What Nigerians pay FG', are wrong in fact or context, that cannot be remedied by a denial of liberty.

The government should simply publish its alternative narrative, and let the public decide. Mallam el-Rufai has not done anything illegal by encouraging discourse about what our government costs us.

He has been outspoken about his concerns regarding the direction the current government is taking this country, and he has written critical pieces on this matter on Nigerian and international media platforms. Free speech is a constitutional right, and it implies the obligation by the state to defend even those whose views are not congruent with the powers that be."

He described the arrest of his client as a resort to "arm-twisting and harassment,"which should not be in a democracy."

Plot Against Okonjo-Iweala Thickens...Gets Threat Text Messages From Nigeria!

A fresh plot aimed at stopping the nomination of the Managing Director of the World Bank, Dr. (Mrs.) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from being nominated as minister of the Federal Republic has been flagged off in Abuja.

Top level sources in the polity told Sunday Tribune that a plot was flagged off late last week following the meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and Okonjo-Iweala in Abuja, where the woman agreed to work as a Minister of the Federal Republic.

"Some faceless people (mostly opposition political figures) are parading Abuja with a plan to stop the nomination of Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala. They are lobbying some well known political figures on why Iweala should not be nominated as Minister," a source said, adding that some of those involved also include a team of businessmen who are afraid her appointment could hamper their businesses.

The source further said: "There are those who are doing this for commercial reasons, patronage or business. Some of them are afraid that her hot knife could slice off their usual butter. It is a serious matter."

It was gathered that when reports of Iweala's meeting with President Jonathan became public knowledge last week, those behind the plot intensified their lobbying and that they also started sending threatening text messages to her in the United States.

"They also started sending such threat messages to her people. The simple political reason for all that is their fear that her appointment will be of a great advantage to government of President Jonathan," the source said.

A former Minister, who is said to be strongly opposed to Iweala's coming into the cabinet was said to be coordinating the plot against her at the weekend.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that Iweala's name may be sent to the National Assembly on Monday, even without a formal security report. Sources said that though the security agencies were still expecting her name at the weekend, the top echelon of the agencies have confirmed to the government that they were yet to receive a petition against her since she left office in 2007.

A source said that such information confirmation could facilitate the sending of her name directly to the Senate for screening and confirmation.

Boko Haram: 36 Chadians, 9 Cameroonians killed in Borno!

No fewer than 36 nationals of Chad Republic and Cameroon were said to have been killed at the local 'Burkuttu' joint at Dala Kabamti ward of Maiduguri metropolitan when gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram opened fire at the 'Burkuttu' joint in Borno State, recently.

Speaking with Sunday Tribune, leader of the Chadian/Cameroon community in Dala ward of Maiduguri, Mr Mbairane Mbaimag, said that majority of the people in Dala Kabamti were either Chadians or Cameroonians and that many of the people were re-locating to their country of origin following the merciless attack on them by the gunmen.

Mr. Mbaimag also told Sunday Tribune that most of them had stayed in Nigeria for more than 30 years and had built most of the beautiful houses in Maiduguri, and that they had lived in peace with the people, adding that drinking to them was part of their cultural heritage and that they always enjoyed it after a hard day job as must of them were bricklayers.

He said, "We have served Nigeria; some of us are retired military personel, others are retired policemen, while some us are labourers and bricklayers. We do not look for anybody's trouble as we are peace loving, but the incident last week and its aftermath, especially when the soldiers came; most of us did not feel good about it, because after the gunmen came and killed our people, soldiers also came and subjected us to torture. I have lived in Nigeria for 40 years, some of us 30 and 20 years, but we have never seen such a thing like that. We pray God to help us forget such a shocking incident as we lost 36 people.

My wife, Christy Essien-Igbokwe, was simply tired of this world... Says Husband!

From all indication, late celebrity musician and actress, Christy Uduak Essien-Igbokwe, may have known long before the day she passed on that her sojourn on this planet earth would soon come to an end.

Going by what she told her children that sounded philosophical and the interpretation of such feelings by the husband, the late Christy had already become tired of this world, but what her close ones did not know was that she was going to quit the stage now.

Chief Edwin Igbokwe, foremost journalist and husband to the deceased, disclosed to Sunday Independent in an emotion-laden voice while confirming the death of his wife on Thursday, that Christy told the children that she would not want to stay beyond half a century on this planet earth, an indication that she was tired of remaining alive.

His words: "She told her children not long ago that she would not want to stay on this earth beyond half a century.

"Though she took ill, but it was not very serious, just two days sickness. Was she really sick?

"She was simply tired of this world and did tell the children not long ago that she wouldn't want to live more than half a century.

"She said there are a lot of evil and bad people on this earth and that she could not understand why the same evil and bad people are the ones who prosper while the good people are suffering.

"She said that if reincarnation is real, she would not want to come back to this world because it is full of evil."

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver -- No Prenup -- Will Split Hundreds of Millions in Divorce!

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver will split around $400 million, and legally it's supposed to be divided  up 50/50, because we know there's no prenup.

TMZ broke the story Friday that Maria filed for divorce and the division of property is yet to be determined. Because there is no prenup, under California law, all earnings and other property acquired during the marriage is considered community property, which means a 50/50 split.

Arnold's worth is estimated at $300 million, while Maria's is around $100 million.  Since the couple has been married for a quarter century and it's probably impossible to separate what they each had before they tied the knot, it's likely the entire pot of money will be considered community property.

But here's the twist.  This divorce will never go to trial. It is going to settle out of court, and nothing requires Arnold and Maria to agree on a 50/50 split. Typically in these cases, there's a lot of horse trading ... Maria gets this house, Arnold gets that one, etc.

Maria's lawyer, disso-queen Laura Wasser, and Arnold's attorney, Bob Kaufman, will be hashing out the property settlement agreement -- probably for months.

One final point.  We will never know the terms of the final property settlement agreement, because it's going to be confidential.  Standard operating procedure for high-profile divorces.

Prince William & Kate Plants A Tree To Symbolize Love For 800 Years!

Just two months into their marriage, Prince William and Duchess Catherine were looking to the future on the third day of their Canadian tour – 800 years in the future, to be exact.

The couple, energized from Friday's Canada Day festivities, planted an Eastern Hemlock tree in the shadow of the Pin Oak planted by William's parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, on June 21, 1983 (the prince's first birthday).

The native species planted by William and Kate will serve as an enduring symbol of the couple's love for 800 years.

William, 29, took a deep breath as he was shown the plaque bearing his late mother's name on one of the more than 120 commemorative trees gracing the grounds of Rideau Hall, the home of Canada's governor general.

The couple's tree is surrounded by red oaks planted by other members of the Royal Family, including the Queen's, which was planted in 1977.

The tree-planting tradition was first started by Japan's Prince Fushimi when he made the first official foreign royal visit to Ottawa in 1907, and the Royal Family has planted 16 ceremonial trees since 1939.

Celebrating Love

Later, the couple met newlyweds who married on the same day as them – April 29 – this year, as well as couples celebrating their 50th, 60th and 70th wedding anniversaries.

Kate, 29, who glowed in a grey Catherine Walker dress, smiled as Adrienne Charlebois, who was celebrating 50 years of marriage to her husband Denny, said, "I hope you will be as fortunate as we have been in our marriage."

The royal couple looked at each other and replied, "We hope so, too."

Shocking Details Of The Man Who Cuts Wife Into Pieces After Stabbing Her To Death!

Late Titilayo and the husband who killed her.

Details have emerged of how Akolade Arowolo, a jobless graduate, suspected to have killed his banker wife, Titilayo, last Friday was arrested by the police.

Akolade was arrested on Saturday at their residence at 8, Akindehinde Street, Isolo around 11pm.
"He came back to his flat the next day at about 11 pm; perhaps, to pick up a few things before making good his escape. Policemen had already laid ambush and were waiting. He was immediately arrested.
Titilayo's family have been contacted and they have taken custody of her daughter. Kolade is now in the custody of the SCID, Panti," the source, a policeman, said.

Prior to his arrest, Punch gathered that some policemen had flagged down Kolade's car around Aye Bus stop, Isolo and quizzed him on account of the bloodstains on his clothes but he tricked the policemen  and escaped.

The source said, "Kolade escaped on Friday after the murder when some policemen apprehended him somewhere around Aye Bus Stop. He was covered in blood and even passersby thought he had been involved in
an accident.

"When they stopped him and started quizzing him, Kolade collapsed on the ground pretending to have fainted. As they were making efforts to revive him, he immediately got up and rushed across the road,
nearly killing himself in the process because he was knocked down by a car. To the surprise of those present, he just picked himself up, boarded a bike and fled. Kolade's car was immediately seized and taken to the Aswani Police Station, Isolo."

Another source at the SCID told one of our correspondents that when Kolade was quizzed, he simply said, "It was the devil's handiwork."
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, confirmed Kolade's arrest to our correspondents on the phone, adding that investigations were still ongoing.
At the residence of the couple, a neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Arowolos had frequent quarrel, which often resulted in fights.

The source said, "I cannot say for sure what led to her murder. I was aware they fought frequently but because it rained heavily that Friday morning, I don't think anyone heard their noise. The next day
(Saturday), her body was discovered; I came back from an outing to meet a huge crowd on the street. I was shocked to learn that Titilayo had been murdered by her husband. Although they had frequent fights, no one expected this.

"I never really had cause to relate with Kolade because I live with a sibling who rented this flat. I was surprised to learn that Arowolo was married because he frequently brought in different girls every  day to his flat. As a result, I never knew who his wife was."

The source also described the murder scene as gory, saying "Arowolo was stabbed severally in her chest and her eyes gouged out; in fact, her husband mutilated her. I couldn't even bring myself to look  at the pictures some of the neighbours took with their phones."

Another neighbour said, "I don't live here, although I run a business on this street. I learnt that the man murdered his wife and escaped after dropping off their two-year-old daughter at a day care centre.
When the parents did not come for the child, the day care employees were worried and came to look for them. There was no one at home and it seemed none of the parents could be reached. Matters came to a head the next day when a putrid odour was coming out
from the Arowolos' flat. I don't know if it was the neighbours or the day care employees that called the police but they just came here and before you know it, a crowd had gathered."

At Skye Bank, Marina branch, where Titilayo worked until the time of her murder, her colleagues were still mourning.

One of Titilayo's colleague, who was recently transferred, told Punch that the deceased was hardworking and was reportedly due for a promotion.

Describing her relationship with the deceased emotionally, she said, "I've known Titi for more than three years. Titi was working at Skye Lounge Victoria Island. She was later transferred to Adeola Hopewell  before joining the Marina branch over a year ago.

"She joined Skye bank around 2007 and I can tell you that she never received a query from the bank. That is to show you how committed she was to her job."

Although she said there were times Titilayo came to office with injuries, the source said nobody suspected that she was being abused because she did not discuss her problem with her colleagues.

She said, "There was a day she came to work in bandage but when I asked her how she sustained injuries, she said she fell from an okada.

"Two weeks ago, another colleague saw marks on her hands but when asked how she got the bruises, she said she slipped and fell in the house.
"It is now that I'm beginning to connect the dots. Titi was small in stature and her husband was big. I can only imagine the sort of beating he would have been giving her. I regret not noticing on time.
Probably, we would have been able to avert this disaster.

"Titi was so in love with Akolade. On many occassions, she would distribute copies of Akolade's Curriculum Vitae to colleagues in the office because she was eager to see him get a job.

"Akolade, however, never appreciated her. Sometimes, he would seize her cheque book, ATM cards and her car keys as punishment whenever they fought even though she was the one sustaining the family financially.

"Titi was very happy last Thursday because her leave would start on Friday, which happened to be her husband's 30th birthday. She said this period is for 'me and my husband."
The source told our one of our correspondents that Titilayo was extrememly close to her father having lost her biological mother at a tender age. This was why she always visited her father every week.

"I suspect that Akolade must have been targeting her leave allowance which was over N250,000 that she had just received the previous day. Also, I think he was her next of kin in all her official documents and he had a lot to gain from her death," the source added.

Meanwhile, a page has been opened for Titilayo, Facebook. The page titled "RIP Omozoje Titilayo Oyakhire" and opened on Monday by her friends had been a washed with messages of love, and condolences and  curses on the suspect.

Meanwhile, Titilayo's corpse has since been deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital's mortuary, Ikeja. Funeral plans are yet to be announced.

How Nigerian Man Sneaked On A Plane With An Invalid Pass

The FBI says a Nigerian man boarded a Virgin Atlantic airplane last week with an invalid boarding pass.

The man, Olajide Olwaseun Noibi, sneaked onto a flight from New York to Los Angeles and sat in the main cabin. When a flight attendant asked him to show his boarding pass, he produced an expired pass that belonged to someone else. Days later, airport officials found 10 expired boarding passes in his bag - none of them in his name.

The Transportation Security Administration says Noibi was screened before he boarded the flight.

Passengers are supposed to show an identification card and boarding pass at airport security checkpoints.

Noibi has been charged with being a stowaway.

The I feel good man, Kesse, also shared a few words with his fans, this he said: 'I am always overwhelmed by the response I get any time I either drive around in town or when performing on a stage, that tells me that Ghanaians love me, they always want to me glow, grow and, expand, so I want to use this medium to thank the whole populace of Ghana for their unending support, hate and love, all these three make me strong as an artiste and once again, I am humbled to be their favorite'.

For his final words, Kesse wants everybody to know that the long awaited album of the project fame and mentor winner is ready, Ghanaians have been asking for it but now it is cooked and can be served but hey to get a feel of the album, join him on music music this Saturday and have a blast with the fresh prodigy son of the soil, Kesse, hope to see everybody there, he ended.

You know what they say when a true son of the soil returns to his alma mater, so as Kesse returns to climb the very stage that made him, then you know that its definitely going to be bigger than the music music slogan its self or better still call it the FRESH PRODIGY PERFORMANCE, so make a date 2nd July 2011, this Saturday, don't miss out of the fun.

Justin Timberlake Buys Stake In MySpace!

The site was the most popular social networking forum in 2006, until its users flocked to Facebook.com - but Timberlake is hoping to change that by focusing on music. After taking a stake of the website, the star will take on a lead role as part of MySpace''s 35-million-dollars acquisition by online advertising network Specific Media from News Corporation, reports Contactmusic.A statement from the pop star/actor read, "There''s a need for a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite entertainers, listen to music, watch videos, share and discover cool stuff and just connect."Myspace has the potential to be that place. Art is inspired by people and vice versa, so there''s a natural social component to entertainment. I''m excited to help revitalize Myspace by using its social media platform to bring artists and fans together in one community," the statement added. Specific Ceo Tim Vanderhook adds, "We look forward to partnering with someone as talented as Justin Timberlake who will lead the business strategy with his creative ideas and vision for transforming MySpace."

Edo State To Set Up Football Academy!

Arrangements for the establishment of a football academy and the construction of a mini stadium in Benin City are underway. Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State gave this indication yesterday when he paid an inspection visit to Benin Technical College, Ugbowo, in Benin City.

Governor Oshiomhole, who was conducted round the school premises by the principal, Mrs Helen Odigie, said the mini stadium would concentrate on training youths on football skills.

According to the governor, the unused portion of the large expanse of land on which the college is built will be used for a mini stadium "to enhance sporting activities in the State."

He maintained that government will look inward to reposition the school, saying that he has approached the Canadian embassy to help restore the loss glory of the school which was well known for sport in the past.

"We will see what we can do to reposition the college. I also believe that rather than leave these hostel blocks empty, we can convert part of the school to a football academy. We will take advantage of the vast land available here to create a mini stadium. You never know, we might just produce one international player who would save all of us from poverty," he said.

Yemi Smith Drops Law For Music!

SOFT-SPEAKING, with the mien of a harmless boy from next door, Yemi Smith does not exactly cast the image of a man involved in the rumble and tumble turf of Nigerian music industry. He also speaks Queen's English. But the Ogun state born act, a Law graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU), Ile Ife, Osun state is on his sophomore musical release, and he runs his own music label, Rock Base Entertainment. His second release contains two singles, Master on the Dance Floor (featuring Jahbless and Teemh) and Without My Money.

Already, the video of Master on the Dance Floor is on air in television stations across the country.

The song is rendered in an creative blend of languages, English, Yoruba and Pidgin respectively. The artiste said he was inspired to create the song by what American music star, Usher Raymond, said about Nigerian during a visit.

Yemi Smith said: "I realised that most of the songs that we produce in this country, although we are trying to go global, are too westernised. I noticed that when some American entertainers come to Nigeria and they are asked questions about Nigerian music, they would say the sound is just the same with what they have in America. That really touched me particularly was when Usher came to Nigeria, he made a statement that Nigeria music sounds like American music."

This motivated the young man to do something different. According to him, "the song (his new singles) reflect the culture of Nigeria. I decided to come out with a single that is devoid of any American influence. A song that will move people, that can set fire on the dance floor. That is why I did something that is really indigenous. That is what inspired Master on the Dance Floor."

As long ago as 2006 Yemi Smith had released his first recording on Obino Music label. His other number, Without My Money, deals a cajole shot on the ladies. But

with a differing slant that could make it taste fresh. "When everyone is writing love songs, they are talking about making money and spending it with ladies, taking them to resort. I don't have any problem with that, I decided to write a love song in reverse. It is completely out of the normal context that we know love songs to be. What I am simply saying is if I don't have this money, will you still love me?"

He said working with the duo of Jahbless and Teemah was a remarkable experience. "Jahbless is a professional. He delivers well. So also is Teemah. It has been wonderful working with them and the responses has been really amazing," said Yemi Smith.

He disclosed how he came across Jahbless. "The first time I heard him was in a song he did with 9ice at Africa Shrine and I loved it. I could feel the street vibe in the song when it was played. The way people responded to it was outstanding. And from that day, we became friends."

The lawyer who seems to have given it all up for a full-time performing music career said his new singles are excerpts from an up-coming full album, My Diary II (Reloaded). The album's thrust is the realities of life as the songs dwell on things that regularly happen in the society.

"They (the songs) are also my personal experiences. When I got the vision to go into music, the first thing I got was to write about my experience. I resolved that whatever I am going through should be reflected in my music. And that makes the songs real. It is when people hear real music that's when they relate with you. This particular album talks a lot of my experiences and I have noticed that a lot of songs these days dwell on the street. The street is a nice place to be (but) it should be a transition place. I want a lot of people on the street to dream high and (push) up their game. Even in my video it is reflected."

Yemi Smith who had his secondary school education, at Lagos State Modern College said his passion for the street is borne out of the fact that he once lived on the street. "I am crossbreed. I grew up in a nice neighbourhood and at the same time I also grew up on the street. My father moved from where we were residing and moved to Ketu, it was like a ghetto. I think I have a taste of both that is why I decided to do something that will motivate people on the street to dream big."

Quizzed further on how he settled for music against law, Yemi Smith who released his first single in 2004 said: "My drive for music started way back, from my secondary school. Then in school music was one thing that got the girls interested in you. I was in JSS Three when I wrote my first song. That's how I started and listening to the likes of Jackson Five, Ray Charles and a lot of other musicians that influenced me to go into music. While in school, in Obafemi Awolowo University, entertainment was peak there. I got to organise a lot of shows. And I did a lot of music."

Yemi Smith who has produced several artistes said despite having a musical studio, he faced lots of challenges "I am also into real estate law. I have a music studio, Rock Base Music studio. I have produced a lot of fast-rising artistes.

When I left school I went into music full time, when the challenges came I had to go into real estate to support myself and I built my studio. The other challenges I faced was being misunderstood. From the background that I was coming from, it was like: 'why do you want to do music?' A lot of people back then criticised me. Now they are my biggest fans."

In the near future, Yemi Smith hopes to hit it really big, winning awards "I like what Don Jazzy and D'Banj are doing, I respect them, in the near future, I want to surpass them," he prophesied

PHCN Increases Tariff From N8 To N40 Per Kilowatts!

*What???*
THE new tariff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) will take effect from today, according to the Multi Year Tariff Order (MYTO) regime.

In the new tariff,
Nigerians will now be paying N40 per kilowatt as against N8 per kilowatt in the old regime.

Meanwhile, reactions have been trailing the increase in electricity tariff. The president of Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), Comrade Bede Opara, said that Nigerians' suffering would increase, if the new tariff was implemented against their wish and that of electricity workers.

"Telling Nigerians to pay what they are paying is even wrong because they are not enjoying the services they are paying for. Nigerians are complaining that the bill is high and yet, you are asking them to pay more while there is no improvement in power generation."

Another stakeholder in the power sector, the Business Development Manager, Biopower Nigeria Limited, Mr Lanre Agboola, said that the Federal Government was insensitive to the plight of Nigerians. He said the government should have made provisions for improvement in power generation before introducing higher tariff.

"When the telecoms operators came with prepaid billings, people bought into it because you can evaluate what you are paying for, but when there is no improvement in power supply and you are asking Nigerians to pay more is unjustifiable," he said.
So what do you think about the increase?

Abuja Authorities Relocate Beggars To Their States Of Origin!

*The move is to ensure security of lives and properties... I suppose*

Less than 24 hours after the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) announced a review on the operations of parks and gardens in the city and directing that they should henceforth close by 6pm, the administration yesterday repatriated over 170 beggars arrested from different parts of the city to their respective states of origin.

This, according to FCTA, is part of its effort to ensure security of lives and properties in the federal capital.

The repatriated beggars, who were evicted in groups in different buses, were taken to states such as Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, Jigawa, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Plateau and Gombe. Other states are: Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Abia.

The repatriation exercise, which was carried out by the Society Against Prostitution and Child Labour in Nigeria (SAP-CLN) in collaboration with the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) and Social Development Secretariat of the FCT administration, was the biggest since the exercise started months ago.

It was learnt also that the beggars, who are widely unknown and who do not have any identity, often flood traffic jam in the city carrying bags with unknown items. They even peep into peoples' cars while begging for alms.

Oludare Atere, assistant director at the Social Development Secretariat of the FCTA lamented the problem posed by beggars saying that it appears to be getting complex by the day.

He added that the FCT administration would not relent in its efforts at ensuring that beggars, hawkers and commercial sex workers are removed from the street of Abuja.

Mr Atere enjoined the beggars to seek meaningful sources of livelihood when they get to their respective states of origin.

On his part, Bala Tsoho the principal, Bwari Rehabilitation Centre, expressed dismay at the unwillingness of most of the beggars to embrace the FCTA initiative to rehabilitate them at the centre.

He said this is because the beggars lack a "sense of dignity and pride."

Mimiko’s Wife Rescues Accident Victims On Ore-Shagamu Road!

Surprising... What would have resulted in the loss of 16 lives in a passenger bus was yesterday prevented by Ondo State governor's wife, Olukemi Mimiko as her convoy rescued some victims who were trapped in the vehicle. The wife of the governor was on her way to Lagos State.

However, the driver of the ill fated bus and a kid were already dead before the wife of the governor got to the scene of the incident, while others sustained various levels of injuries.

The passengers who were in an 18-seater bus with the inscription "God is Good" were said to be heading to Delta State from Lagos before the tragic accident.

They were said to be trapped inside the bus after the driver lost control of the vehicle before the fatal accident occurred.

Apparently, immediately Mrs. Mimiko, got to accident scene, she directed her aides in the convoy to stop and rescue the victims before their situation got worse. The victims were immediately taken to the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital for urgent treatment.

One of the sympathizers, simply identified as Abiodun commended the wife of the governor for her kindness which made her stop and offer quick and required assistance to the victims.

Monaco's Three-Day Royal Wedding Kicks Off!

Wedding festivities have begun in Monaco for the lavish three-day, $60 million royal wedding that will see former playboy Prince Albert II marry his commoner bride Charlene Wittstock.

The celebrity-studded event kicked off last night with a concert at the Stade Louis II stadium, featuring Californian rock group The Eagles and watched by 15,000 residents of the tiny Mediterranean state.

The wedding is going ahead amid reports that Wittstock, a South African champion swimmer 20 years his junior, had been getting cold feet — reports which the palace strongly denied.

Prince Albert, 53, will marry Wittstock, 33, in a 40-minute civil ceremony at the Palace on Friday and their union will be solemnized in a public Catholic ceremony in the Palace's main courtyard on Saturday.

The wedding is expected to be the biggest event Monaco has seen wince the 1965 wedding of Albert's mother, Hollywood star Grace Kelly, and father Prince Rainier.

Around 3500 guests have been invited to witness Saturday's religious ceremony, which will also be broadcast live on giant screens in the Palace Square.

Star guests include France's President Nicolas Sarkozy, several European, Middle Eastern and African kings and princes, fashion designers Karl Lagerfeld and Giorgio Armani, supermodel Naomi Campbell, former James Bond actor Roger Moore and Virgin boss Richard Branson.

The ceremony will be followed by a procession, an official dinner catered by renowned chef Alain Ducasse, and a gala ball at the Opera Garnier and the Terraces of the Monte-Carlo Casino.

Friday's festivities will close with a sound and light show over Port Hercules.

The royal couple have survived two scandals arising from the Prince's lifestyle. In 2005 he acknowledged fathering a 22-month old boy with a former flight attendant from Togo and in 2006 DNA tests proved he was also the father of a teenage girl, born to a Californian woman in the early 1990s.

Royal watchers have suggested that Wittstock may have more difficulty fitting in with royal life than Prince William's wife Catherine — now the Duchess of Cambridge — because unlike the former Middleton, Wittstock had a working class upbringing and did not attend posh private schools.

The former Olympic backstroke swimmer is said to have bonded with Prince Albert over their shared love of sport, with Albert having also competed in the Olympics, on a bobsled team.
