A student of the College of Education, Ekiadolor, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, was beheaded on Tuesday in a renewed cult war in the state.
The sight of the detached head sent shivers down the spines of workers at the Central Hospital in Benin, where it was brought by policemen.
It was gathered that
the head, was left at the gate of the institution, apparently as a warning sign to rival cult groups.
The slain student was believed to have been killed in a gruesome manner as there was a gunshot wound and matchete cut on his severed head. Grasses were also stuffed into his mouth.
The location of his body was not known as at press time even as the police were said to have arrested some persons in connection with the killing.
Sources said they heard gunshot at night at Ekiadolor, host community of the institution, only for a fresh head to be found in front of the school gate.
Provost of the institution, Prof. Amen Uhunmwagho, in a telephone interview said the school authorities were yet to "ascertain whether the slain man is a student of the institution."
Uhunmwagho said the authorities would wait for the police to conclude their investigations before the identity of the slain person could be ascertained.
