A miracle child who defied medical odds is being remembered in Pueblo after he passed Oct. 31. Nickolas Coke was born without a brain, and survived until he was three years old, living a remarkable life that surpassed expectations.
T.V. station KOAA first reported the news, recalling Nickolas’ well-documented and rare condition called anencephaly. It means he was only born with a brain stem. Most infants with this condition die shortly after birth.
Nickolas woke up on the morning of his death with breathing troubles. He eventually stopped breathing. Doctors attempted CPR but were unable to revive him.
Instead of counting the days until the youngster’s death, his family tried to celebrate each one.
“He was our hero because he showed the strength. If I can do this, anything can be done” his mother, Sheena Coke, told KOAA, “He taught us everything, he taught the love, how to be family. He taught us everything.”
Oh dear...rip.
