A young man is accused of killing his father over the weekend, repeatedly beating him with a weed trimmer while he slept on a futon in their home.
Yashesh Desai, 21, was arrested early Sunday morning after his brother called police to their home on Plover Court in the western suburb, police said in a news release. The brother told officers that Desai had killed their father, Sanjiv Desai, 47, police said.
Desai was taken into custody at the home and charged with first-degree murder.
"Yesterday, Sanjiv Desai's life was tragically taken from him, allegedly by his own son," said DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin.
People living on the quiet suburban cul-de-sac where the Desais live describe the son and father as great neighbors. Neighbor Kirk Tolliver, 84, said he would often chat with the son and the father outside.

"They were always interested in national and world affairs," said Tolliver.
Tolliver said the family lived in the two-story home for over a decade.
"They were very outgoing people," said Tolliver. " just can't believe it. It feels like a bad dream."
Neighbor Bonnie Wagner said the incident caused massive confusion in the neighborhood.
"There were fire trucks, police and ambulances," said Wagner. "We didn't know what was going on."
Wagner said she and husband at one time had considered moving but decided not to because they liked their neighbors, including the Desai family.
"They were always polite," said Wagner. "I'm in shock right now.
