Two Boko Haram Members Killed In Their Own Car Bomb

The Joint Security Task Force (JTF) has confirmed the death of two suspected Boko Haram members from an explosion in their own car during an operation in Kano.

The Brigade Commander of the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Kano, Brig-Gen Iliyasu Abbah, disclosed this while conducting journalists round the scene of the incident.

He said the operation took place around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday in Sabuwar Gandu Phase one in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

"The suspects have been planning a major operation with a car which had already been primed to explode because they knew security agencies have been trailing them."

Mr. Abbah said the suspects wanted to detonate the improvised explosive devices loaded in a car to kill security operatives coming to search their house.

"Unfortunately the IEDs inside the car exploded on them and shattered their bodies."

The Army spokesperson said there was no fatality on the side of the JTF members but that two soldiers sustained injuries from the blast.

He said the five women and several innocent children found in the house would have died together with the suspects if they had succeeded in detonating all the IEDs.

"We have confirmed that some of them are not Nigerians but that is left to the security agencies charged with the responsibility to bring out the identity of these people."

Mr. Abbah said that items recovered from the house included two AK 47rifles, three magazines, two vehicles (one of them completely shattered), 36 rounds of 5.65 mm;181 rounds of 7.62mm, one pistol, two unexploded IEDs and several handsets.

He also disclosed that soldiers have intercepted some weapons from motorcyclists at one of the security check points in Kano metropolis and that investigation was still going on.
