Idris Elba Plays Nelson Mandela In New Movie

BRITISH actor Idris Elba stars as Nelson Mandela in the first full length trailer for the biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

Idris, 40, is tipped to win an Oscar for his portrayal of the anti-apartheid hero.

The film is based on Mandela’s own 1994 autobiography and follows his life from childhood to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of South Africa.

The new trailer begins with explosive shots of Mandela’s violent opposition to the apartheid state.

The freedom fighter is then seen giving a rousing speech to a crowd of supporters.

We also get a peek of the love story between Nelson and his ex-wife Winnie Mandela - played by fellow Brit and Bond girl Naomie Harris.
