He also urged three newly inaugurated Local Government Transition Committee chairmen to use council funds judiciously to uplift their council areas.
Speaking after the commissioners and transition committee chairmen had taken relevant oaths, Oshiomhole said the commissioners were appointed on merit.
According to him, "we are injecting young blood into the executive council, so that the average age of Council would drop, leading to more efficiency and more vigour in the management of affairs. We are approaching the final phase of the first term in office and you would find that in the various ministries, there are on board programmes and projects that are on-going.
"The emphasis at the moment is to complete what we have already started so that we don't have to abandon projects and move to new areas, so that we don't have uncoordinated development."
Comrade Oshiomhole reminded the new commissioners that governance is about initiative and drive, adding that "judging by your background in your various fields, you would effectively enrich the work of the council."
The governor described the commissioners as tested and rugged politicians, saying that government would depend on them to navigate through the final phase of this administration.
He thanked the people of Edo State for the massive support for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) during the last general elections, stressing that it is an endorsement of the policies and programmes of this administration.
To the council chairmen, Oshiomhole said they would be expected to provide leadership in their respective areas.
He reminded them that local government funds are meant for the development of the areas.
Comrade Oshiomhole emphasised that "this is not your turn of you chop, I chop. This is your turn to share the burden of giving effect to the aspiration of the people using the resources of the people for their good."
The governor stressed the need for the chairmen to embark on regular supervision of projects, adding this is the time for them to build their political future.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Chief Lucky James and Mr. Anslem Agbabi pledged their full loyalty to the government, stressing their commitment to work to uplift people of the state.
The commissioners sworn-in were Mrs. Inumidun Idehen, Mr. Ekpenusi Omorotiowhe, Miss Anena Jemitola, Chief Lucky James, Barr. Chris Ebare, Mr. Peter Ikem and Barr. Donald Osikhena Boih.
The new Council Chairmen are Anslem Agbabi for Akoko-Edo, Mr. Silvanus Gbogbo for Igueben and Macu Shaka Momodu for Esan Central Local Government Areas.
It is hoped that with the new commissioners now sworn-in, the ministries and parastatals that have remained inactive after the last general elections and where some commissioners were dropped as a result of being far from the grassroots will come alive.
