FORMER member of the House of Representatives, Mr Patrick Obahiagbon, has rejected the offer of Commissioner for Information and Orientation, made to him by Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
It was learnt that the governor did all he could to make him the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, but political gladiators around him advised the governor against it due to their political interests.
We were reliably informed that Obahiagbon, who is one of the out spoken lawmakers in the 6th Assembly, lost the SSG position to the cold war between the faction of the party led by the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Pius Odubu and the one led by the South South Vice Chairman of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
It will be recalled that Obahiagbon was the only Peoples Democratic party, PDP representative at the National Assembly that defected to the ACN in the state, who failed to make it back to the House of Representatives.
We learnt that loyalists of the Deputy Governor believed that making Obahiagbon the SSG would further empower loyalists of the Ize-Iyamu-led group of the party.
It was learnt that the group advised the governor against the move so as to ensure that Obahiagbon did not get it.
It was also learnt that the former lawmaker was infuriated after he learnt that a top government official boasted that he would ensure that he frustrated any move by the governor to make him (Obahiagbon) the state representative on the board of the Millennium Development Goals, MDG, which is another appointment the governor was considering offering him.
