Ahead of this year's Christian pilgrimage to Jerusalem, President Goodluck Jonathan has approved two airlines for the airlift of intending pilgrims.
A statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the Head of Media, Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Mr Jide Oshundun, named the two airlines as Atlas Jest Airlines and Travel Aviation and Tours.
The statement also quoted the NCNC Executive Secretary, Mr John Opara, as saying that the two airlines met all the conditions spelt out by the commission and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
He added that Jonathan also approved two other airlines, K.S Travels and Empire Aviation, as standby and back-up.
The executive secretary said that the signing of the Air Charter Agreements would take place on September 15.
Opara, who said the NCNC and the NCAA would ascertain the air worthiness of the aircraft after the signing of the agreements, gave an assurance that the commission would adhere strictly to the schedule.
NAN also recalls that no fewer than five airlines were interviewed in June for the airlift of pilgrims.
