Okada Passenger Who Was Plunged Into Lagos Lagoon Has Been Identified... But Body Is Yet To Be Recovered

The body of the motorcycle passenger, who, Monday, plunged into the lagoon at Third Mainland Bridge, is yet to be recovered, though his name had been given as John Ame.

The tragic event occured after a passenger on a commercial motorcycle (Okada) was hit by a fast moving vehicle, and was plunged into the lagoon.

The incident, which occurred at about 4pm, hampered the free flow of traffic as sympathisers battled to save the passenger. However, the Okada rider only sustained injury. Eyewitnesses said the driver of the red cab that hit the motorcycle fled the scene.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, arrived the scene and helped control the resultant traffic gridlock. Sector Commander of the Corps, Mr. Jonas Agu, disclosed that the red cab hit the motorcycle from the rear. Local divers, according to him, made effort to comb the water but could not recover the body of the passenger.

The eyewitness said Lagos State Government "has always been against Okada on expressways, the Third Mainland Bridge inclusive. However, instead of complying, they don't think about the risk involved in disobeying. I hope all will learn a lesson from this incident.

The motorcyclist, was however rushed to the Gbagada General Hospital, while his motorbike was in police custody
