Nigerians will always be good people great nation, we sure do have a unique way of suffering and smiling. To spice the day up some musicians entertained protesters at the Save Nigeria Group rally at the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, Lagos State today.
Among them were Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde aka KWAM1; Afrobeat musician, Femi Kuti; and reggae artiste, Ras Kimono.
Dressed in a white shirt with green sleeves and collar and with an inscription, ‘Kill corruption, not Nigerians,’ KWAM1 sang songs hitting the ruling class for over 30 minutes.
The artise sang with a live band from some of his trackssuch as “Mama Sempe,’ ‘Better dey come,’ which he twisted to contain lyrics lamenting the Nigerian condition and asking its leaders to have a change of mind on the removal of fuel subsidy.
Femi Kuti addressed the crowd for some minutes during which he said Nigerians should deal with some politicians, whom he named, for the country to get better.
Speaking earlier, Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola, addressed the gathering by calling on total support from the masses to say no fuel subsidy removal.
“We no dey vex, no be vex matter, it is our right (the protest). For every one in your area, tell them to come out, it means we will all die of starvation [if fuel subsidy is removed]. Bimbo told the gathering.
Speaking further, the award winning actress said, “As dem don increase dis money, every other thing don rise. Transport, food, and others don rise, meanwhile, our salary no rise.
“This is not about violence; it is about us saying no. enough is enough. Let’s stand for our rights. Nigeria owes us because we are citizens of Nigeria. We don’t have good basic amenities; we are tired and saying NO. Stand for your family and children,” she concluded amidst cheers from the protesters.
Also addressing the gathering was former Presidential running mate to General Buhari in the last general elections, Pastor Tunde Bakare, who said the protest is not about fuel subsidy removal but Nigerians saying NO to bad governance as practiced by the ruling party, PDP.
“This is not about removal of fuel subsidy but us saying NO to corruption by PDP. Third Mainland Bridge, National Stadium and Theatre, Aso Rock and others were all built by the Military, what has the PDP done for us?” Tunde Bakare queried.
Bearing his mind further, Tunde Bake, the Convener of the Save Nigeria Group (SNG) said, “Mubarak ruled Egypt for 30 years, where is he today? Gone. Ghadaffi ruled Libya for over 40 years, where is he today? Gone. What will happen to Jonathan? Gone,” The Pastor of Latter Rain Assembly concluded.
