Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance has today (Tuesday) condoled with families of persons who had so far died in the anti-fuel subsidy removal protests.
In a posting on her Twitter handle, Okonjo-Iweala said she was hurt by the deaths recorded in the protests.
Two persons were reportedly killed by policemen in Ibafo, Ogun State on Tuesday; a man was killed by a police officer in Lagos on Monday; while nine persons were said to have been shot dead by policemen in Kano on Monday.
In her posting, the minister wrote,
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who passed away in the protest. I pray that the Almighty comforts them.
“With deep sadness, I received news of the death of young persons during the protests. Their families must be hurting real badly right now.”
Earlier in an interview on Africa Independent Television, the minister assured that the prices of petroleum products would drop when the four refineries get back on stream in 18-24 months.
