Early eyewitness accounts say that casualties are extremely high with the explosion occurring during the main Sunday service
Reports of an early morning explosion have again rocked the restive city of Jos with many feared dead. The explosion occurred at about 10.30 am at St. Finbar's Catholic Church in Rayfield, an exclusive preserve of the rich and affluent. It is the first major attack in that area of town which is usually heavily guarded by soldiers and members of the Joint Task Force (JTF).
Early eyewitness accounts say that casualties are extremely high with the explosion occurring during the main Sunday service. Mayhem ensued as soldiers began to fire indiscriminately at supposed perpetrators with many onlookers fleeing and ducking for cover.
Following a short period of relative calm, Jos has again been devastated by bomb explosions. The attack on St. Finbar's is the second attack on a church in less than a month following the explosion at Church of Christ in Nigeria, COCIN which left 3 dead and 38 injured.
The scene at St. Finbar's remains out of control as emergency services are yet to arrive on the scene and sporadic shots are still being reported.
