Court Throws Out Attempted Murder Suit Against Nollywood Actress

A Lagos magistrates’ court sitting in Ikeja, on Monday, threw out the attempted murder and conspiracy charge brought against popular Yoruba movie actress, Bimbo Akinsanya and also discharged and acquitted her of all charges.
The magistrate, Olufemi Isaac, discharged the 34-year-old actress based on the no case submission advice given by the Lagos State through the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
According to the magistrate, “in accordance to the advice submitted by the DPP, suspicion, no matter how serious, could not be a ground for submission.”
Akinsanya was, on November 2, 2011, arraigned before the court on a two-count charge of conspiracy and felony.
Police prosecutor, Barth Nwaokeye, alleged that the actress had, on October 28, 2011, pointed the General Overseer of Divine Power Revival Ministry, Reverend Pat Dennah, to a yet-to-be identified boy to shoot her.
Nwaokeye said the 33-year-old cleric sustained injury on her left shoulder as a result of the gunshot which occurred at 20, Samuel Street, Akowonjo, Egbeda, Lagos.
However, according to the DPP’s statement, facts had been revealed that there had been issues of misunderstanding between Dennah and Akinsanya piror to the shooting, a reason the complainant suspected Akinsanya of the conspiracy.
