More Edo appointees dropped!

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has sacked two local government Transition Committee Chairmen.

They are Tom Adodo of Igueben Local Government and Tony Momodu of Esan Central Local Government.

Also, the Special Adviser on Legal Matters, Efosa Urhoghide; Chairman, Edo State Broadcasting Service Board Phillip Olumese and Chairman, Edo State Water Board;Frank Erewele were relieved of their appointments.

On Wednesday, eight aides, including two commissioners, were sacked for allegedly failing to deliver their wards to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the April 9 National Assembly elections.

A statement by Oshiomhole's Chief Press Secretary Peter Okhiria directed the sacked chairmen to hand over all government property to the Heads of Service in their local governments.

Others are to hand over all government property in their possession to the Permanent Secretary (Administration) within 24 hours.

The governor's Special Adviser on Media, Tony Iyare, said the changes were to strengthen the government.

In a statement, Iyare said: "It is important to emphasise that there's nothing unusual about the removal of some commissioners and other senior aides as part of the on-going changes and reshuffling being undertaken by the governor to reposition his team.

"Oshiomhole has the power to hire and fire his aides at will.

Although the sterling performance of the government in terms of its massive investment in infrastructural renewal was underscored by the excellent outing of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidates at the National Assembly election which took place on April 9, the task is to shape up the administration for greater challenges.

"Oshiomhole's vision is to constantly nurture and bring in fresh forces in order to re-invigorate his team and place it on a higher steam. This is a normal process of change."
