Police arrest four Nigeriens, Nigerian for ‘planting bomb’!

The Police in Kaduna State yesterday paraded four Niger nationals and a Nigerian for alleged involvement in Saturday's bomb explosion at Kabala West, Kaduna metropolis.

The Police said they belonged "to a dangerous organisation".
Police Commissioner Haruna John told reporters that the Police were working on information obtained from the suspects.
He said while the situation was being reviewed, there was another explosion at the Sharia Court at Magajin Gari, in Kaduna North Local Government secretariat.
John said: "While we were reviewing our operations and patting ourselves on the back for a successful outing during the presidential election, we got information that there was an explosion at Happy Home Night Club in Kabala West.

"We mobilised our men and men of Operation Yaki to the place. Before we got there, the youths around the place had arrested a suspect, Shuibu Abdullahi, and had almost lynched him. We arrested him and, at the moment, he is undergoing treatment in the hospital. For security reasons, I cannot tell you where he is.
"We also arrested one Abubakar Abdulazeez, a Nigerien, who is the principal suspect, at the scene of the incident. He made useful information to the Police and his confessional statement led to the arrest of one Mallam Samaila Alhassan, who is said to have given Abubakar the bomb. At the moment, we have arrested five people, four of whom are from Niger Republic.

"Even though they have not completely opened up, which is usual, one of them has opened up as to his level of involvement."
He said the Police could not make any headway without the cooperation of the people.
John said: "While we were on that, there was another explosion at a spot near Magajin Gari Sharia Court in Kaduna metropolis. The explosion, which cracked the wall of the court building, also uprooted two trees around the vicinity.
"We are investigating whether these two explosions were by separate persons or a syndicate."

He dispelled the rumour that some people died in the explosions, assuring the residents of the safety of their lives and peoperty.
Alhassan, he said, denied knowing the other suspects, adding: "Further investigations revealed that he was indeed an in-law to Ja'afaru Abubakar, one of the arrested suspects."

Abdulazeez told reporters that Samaila gave him the bomb, adding that he did not know that the object was an explosive.
But Samaila claimed that he knew nothing about the bomb until he was arrested.
According to him, he knew the other suspects although he earlier denied them because he was confused when he was arrested in the night.
