22 Feared Dead As Gunmen Attack Churches In Bayero University
Among the 22 dead are said to be two professors and a doctor from the Federal College of Education opposite the university campus.
Daily Trust reporters who went to the scene gathered that the attack started around 10am this morning. The gunmen started the attack by shooting at the worshipers before hurling bombs at them.
One group of worshipers were using a lecture theatre known as the Open Air Theatre near the entrance of the campus while the second group were worshiping at the Sports Complex within the campus when the shooting started.
According to eye witnesses, the shooting began simultaneously at both churches and as the worshipers scampered for safety, the gun men then started throwing explosives.
Our reporters gathered that over three explosions were heard, and several injured victims were seen being carried away afterwards in the university ambulances to hospitals. Men of the JTF have moved in and cordoned of all access to the attack sites but it is not yet clear if any of the attackers was apprehended.
Men of the police bomb squad are said to have also discovered and detonated a timed bomb.
