ONLY eight out of the 73 Nigerian universities are ranked among the top 50 in Africa, Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust (TET) Fund, Prof Mahmood Yakubu announced on Wednesday.
Prof Yakubu stated that the major problem of Nigerian education is not funding but lack of priority, saying that with right governance prioritising, many of the teething problem would not be there.
Out of the eight, six were beneficiaries of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund. They include University of Benin (ranked 17), Ibadan (25), University of Nigeria Nsukka (31), Obafemi Awolowo University (32), Ahmadu Bello University (32) and University of Ilorin (40). The other two, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta and University of Lagos, were not beneficiaries.
