Oshiomhole Pleads With Edo State Lawyers To Defend Kidnappers In Court

Governor Adams Oshiomhole has pleaded with Members of the Edo State chapter of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), to set aside their previous decision to refrain from rendering legal assistance to all kidnap suspects arrested by security agencies in the State.

The Governor observed that the new phenomenon of kidnapping in the State is extremely worrisome, saying that over three hundred persons; men and women suspected kidnappers have been arrested by security agents. "They have been charged to court and they have been remanded in prison. I think for all to appreciate that some efforts are being made," he said.

He further explained that as a result of the decision of members of the bar not to defend kidnap suspects in the State, many of the cases that had been charged to court have not been prosecuted.

Information has it that the Edo State NBA resolved not to represent any kidnap suspect in court after their NBA president was kidnapped. I learnt some prominent lawyers and their loved once have also been kidnapped in time past
