Traffic Warden Killed In Bayelsa Cult Shoot-out!

Another round of shooting between two rival cult groups in Bayelsa State yesterday provoked tension in the state capital and led to the killing of a traffic warden and another unidentified youth.
The new round of shooting among the cult groups is coming few hours after the bloody weekend in the state that led to the killing of five persons identified as ex- militants involved in the controversy over the remittance of allowances from the federal government to their followers.
It was gathered yesterday that some youths suspected to be members of a known cult group in the state capital had stormed a residence in Akenfa area of the Yenagoa Local Government in search of a rival group and, during the exchange of gunfire, a traffic warder attached to "A" Divisional Command of the Bayelsa Police Command was shot dead.
The identity of the warring cult groups, at time of the report, was unknown but the mission of the cultists, according to eyewitnesses, was to attack some youths alleged to have shot dead their members in the past.
The sporadic shooting threw the area in Ken-Kaiama Street in Akenfa community near the state capital into pandemonium and caused many residents to move out in droves.
An eyewitness said the injured victim was lying critically ill in an undisclosed hospital while
the remains of the deceased traffic warden had been deposited in the mortuary at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.
Speaking yesterday on the development, the spokesperson of the Bayelsa Police Command, Mr. Emakpai Egwuevon (ASP) confirmed the killing of two persons and one injured victim. Eguavoen said the incident was suspected to be cult related.
