The couple lost their lives in quick succession after taken local herbs concocted for the treatment of rheumatism, Said Police spokesman in the state Mr. Aremu Adeniran.
Aremu explained that the couple, Mrs. Florence Ogbolu and her husband, Mr. Adebayo Ogbolu, consulted a native doctor after discovering that they were suffering from rheumatism.
It was learnt that the native doctor, identified as Tijani Yusuf, prepared local herbs for the couple and instructed them to drink some quantity and keep the rest. However, the couple after drinking from the substance prepared by the native doctor lost their lives. A source close to the deceased family at Ifesowapo Street, Iju, explained that the 57-year-old husband had been suffering from the ailment for the past 10 years while his 55-year-old wife merely drank it for prevention.
The source said the wife first complained of stomach pain and died instantly but the husband raised the alarm for help and sympathizers, who had come to the woman's aid ended up taking the man to the hospital when he also started complaining of stomach upset but died few minutes before they could reach the hospital.
