Robbers In Army Uniform Clash With Police In Lagos!

Pandemonium broke out yesterday at the Ojota area of Lagos as armed robbers in Army uniform clashed with the police. The robbers, who were alleged to have raided some banks in Ilaro, Ogun State and were being trailed by the police, met stiff resistance from the police at the Ojota area of Lagos.

Also, another set of armed robbers raided two banks on the Ogudu Road in Ojota axis. The confrontation between the police and the armed robbers escaping from Ogun State coincided with that of the one between the police and those attempting to raid the banks at Ogudu.

Daily Sun reliably gathered that during the encounter with the police many people were injured during the stampede. Daily Sun learnt that some armed robbers who were escaping from Ilaro got stranded at Ojota Bus Stop.
The Lagos State Police Command was said to have cordoned off Ojota axis when they received information that a group of robbers were escaping into the state.

The police and the two sets of robbers had serious encounter forcing residents and passersby to run for safety. Motorists also abandoned their vehicles during the pandemonium that ensued as a result of the clash. An eyewitness, Sunday Ugba, described the scenario as war-like. "I thought it was war because the gun battle was two much and first of its kind in Lagos."

A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the robbers escaped because of communication gap.
He said: "We were not properly briefed, my squadron was on a distress call to rescue two banks that were being attacked in Ogudu, but as we were chasing the robbers, we saw some policemen in gun duel with men in Army uniform."

However, Lagos State police spokesman who confirmed that the police had an encounter with some hoodlums, said there was no casualty recorded.
