Schools To Get 10-Year Ban For Examination Malpractice!

The Ministry of Education and the National Examination Council (NECO) are considering the option of preventing schools caught in examination malpractice from registering for future examinations for a ten-year period.

The Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, disclosed this when the management of Africa Independent Television (AIT), led by Raymond Dokpesi, paid him a courtesy visit in his office. Wike said he was also discussing with the NECO board to introduce biometrics system of registration to also reduce incidents of examination fraud.

He said a situation where NECO cancelled results of schools found cheating was not enough deterrent, stressing that delisting the schools would make them tread with caution.

"When a school faces a situation where it cannot sit for SSCE examinations, it would reduce culpability on the part of teachers and principals," he said.

On the nationwide training for teachers, the minister said the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) had released N5 million for each state, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He called on the media to partner with the ministry for the present administration to achieve its transformation agenda.
