The Untold Story Of The UN Building Bombing-----By Survivors

Four survivors from the bomb blast that rocked the United Nations (UN) Building in Abuja, Mrs. Patricia Etokubo,
Mr. Diuglas Matthew, Mr. Illya Gambo, and Dr. Ammah Lawrence have opened up on how they escaped death by the whiskers during the unusual attack that marked a turning point by suicide bombers in the country.
Though many lives were lost in the process, some people were lucky to escape, including the four survivors who relived their pathetic experiences in these interviews, though they are still lying critically ill in different wards at the National Hospital, Abuja, added that what happened to them was a miracle, saying that they would forever remain grateful to God for His mercy.

Etokubo, who works with the World Health Organisation
(WHO) (one of the offices in
the building), said her humble
self and other officials were in
a meeting on the first floor and
before they knew what was
happening, they heard a loud
bang.

----She said, "Everybody was scared and in a twinkle of an eye, it happened and the roof fell on our heads. It hit me on my back, on my head, and there was confusion everywhere. We were many. "Though it was a WHO meeting, the impact of the explosion affected everybody at theUN House. I can also tell you that though I am feeling dizzy now, I am better than yesterday. My children, family and friends have been here to see me. Some of them are even outside now waiting to see me.
I have three children but its
only one that is in Abuja."......

-------The story of Mathew, a
security officer at the UN
House, was also mind
boggling.
He said, "Actually, I can't recall how the suicide bomber made it to the place but I was in Gate 2 with scanning machine. But immediately the vehicle hit the gate, I just heard a loud noise just as the car surged into the building on high speed. "Before I knew what was happening and turn from the scanning machine , the vehicle had already entered the building. And so from there, I just heard terrible noise and an unusual sound of gboa became the order of the day. "And from there, I just heard unbelievable explosion. From there, I fell down and the falling roof hit my hand and my two laps . I can also tell you as at that time up till Friday night , I was only using one eye to see. But this morning, I can now see with both eyes and I am also getting better now. My
two hands and my two laps
were affected when the blast
carried me up."......

-----For Gambo, who works with Nigerian Clinics, UN House, God intervened to save his life. He said, "My office is at the first floor. At about 10am on Friday, I heard some sounds at the ground floor and just as I wanted to go and see what was happening, blood was gushing out from my body and I did not know what happened to me thereafter. " I don't know how I managed to escape death but it was by the grace of the Almighty God.
But I also remembered that I rushed out of the building just
as nobody carried me until I got to the outside of the building . My left hand and ribs were affected.
"I also have some minor injuries on my legs and hands but I am feeling better now.
The doctors were supposed to take me to the theatre but they replied that victims were too much and I am still bleeding."

His wife, Mrs Sarah Gambo, a businesswoman, also chips in, saying that, "In fact, I have been thanking God since, though I didn't get to know until about 4 pm. it was one of my sisters that called me. We have three children. Though
they are treating him, the only thing remaining now is for them to take him to the theatre.".......

-------Also speaking on his experience during the attack, another WHO employee said, "We were in a meeting and there was a blast at the back of our office and then another and the roof caved in and everybody was running helter skelter. I can also inform you that people sustained different injuries but the ambulance was quick to respond as I transported people to the hospital.".....
